Sari Style

For her appearance at a recent reception in Mumbai, Rekha picked a dramatic silk sari, styling it with her signature style- heavy jewelry, lots of flowers and a matte-red lip. Whether her somewhat excessive style is your cup of tea or not, you’ve got to admit she cut a striking picture on the red carpet.

  1. Her styling maybe a matter of debate (too much jewellery, too much make up, etc.) but I admire her for sticking to her kanjeevarams instead of falling prey to the atrocious MM/AJSK/etc. designs. I would rather stick to traditional weaves than wear some of the gaudy designer stuff. Also, it seems like she wears her own sarees and not sarees for hire.

  2. There might be a reason the designers ( Sabya, MM, AKSJ etc), do not dress their bride clients in Kanjeevarams and general south Indian bride style…… They cannot compete with her. Period!

  3. Rekha is Rekha. One and only. Still I wish Indian women would skip the heavy jewellery no matter how traditional. When a sari is the showstopper simple jewellery is enough.

    • totally agree SR! my Mother( her initials are also SR btw!!) loved her chiffons and Kanjeevarams till the end. And we used to love buying them for her! Older people should feel good about themselves and I do not believe in the adage of dress your age. The only thing I would ditch is the maang tikka, and not because of her age, but only because its size detracts from her beautiful face.

  4. That saree color combination is absolutely fabulous. I would totally wear that color combination without the golden buttas on the body. As for Rekha, slightly more restrained per her usual with her jewellery but they drape is so perfect – it’s a 11/10 for the drape!

  5. I am glad she wore a different color combination and picked colors she usually doesnt wear – black and orange. Great to see when she pulls out a new saree from her wardrobe.

And yes, she looks ‘fresh’ despite the heavy make up.

  6. All she had to do to was lose the Maang Tika and the Potli. The background wall of flowers clashes with the outfit but it is not her choice. Otherwise it is actually a fantastic look on her. In fact, it would be quite restrained by her standards if she had left the maang tika home.
