In Raw Mango

While in Chennai for an awards event, Regina was photographed in Raw Mango. Teaming the separates with gold-toned sandals, the actor rounded out the look with jewelry from Amrapali. Like what you see?

  1. No.

It’s a kurta and a bottom sans a dupatta. Don’t know if they are called “separates” now. Plus found prettier and vibrant prints( way cheaper) in these satin silks/brocades of Benaras directly from the weavers. Will ask my darzi to make a better one. Overrated brand anyway.

Similar case is linen by Anavila. The allegedly”re-invented” fabric flows all over Bengal since ages and doesn’t cost a fortune.

The Indian fabric is a class in itself. These designers ought to sell their creativity/novelty in the cut, design and finish of the product which ironically lacks both more often than not. Rechristened Staples don’t become designer and hence my disenchantment with spending dollars on “designer” stuff( lesson learnt after buying both brands!)

PS- Wonder if the weavers have a lion’s share in the prices these designers charge after putting a label to their fabric.

    • Actually Linen sarees were not THAT much prevalent in Bengal saree shops (only a few maybe) before Anavila sarees and Vidya Balan wearing them. Now Bengal is flooded with linen and I am glad that is the case. However, handlooms have been cherished in Bengal for long and hence may be linen sarees found such quick acceptability amongst the general saree wearers in Bengal.

  2. I used to like Raw Mango but I think it’s kind of lost direction. This “suit” looks particularly ill-tailored and almost frumpy on Regina. Meh colour, unimaginative cut, unexceptional fabric, bad finishing, ZERO design, basically. Nothing works.

    • I agree. Used to love the brand when it came out and bought many saris which I cherish. But now Sanjay has sadly become just another designer, and a prisoner of the image his PR team is clearly instructing him to create.

When I try his 15,000 rupee shapeless kurta pajama of plain cotton – I’m wondering if I’m paying for his design, the weavers, or the 5 girls employed at the store, or the hefty rent of the store in Colaba / Lodhi Road. The horrible fitting of the Banarasi kurtas, same cuts, bust cuts which frankly look dumb, sari’s which cost an arm and leg and used to be priced 1/40th the price 2 years back. Not to mention the multiple & repetitive ad campaigns recycling nostalgia, clear freebies given to useless celebrities like Kiran Rao, Mini Mathur – It’s very sad, maybe more sad for me as it’s the first brand I connected with after I started my rediscovery of Indian festive wear.

  3. It is a pretty suit styled with the right make-up and jewelry. A chunni in a stand-out shade would have made a more complete outfit.

  4. In Punjab, streets are lined with stores selling this material for 1/100th price and one can get it stitched with a few hundred Rs. to a beautiful fit and finish. It’s a shame that this even featured on this page. Off late I feel, HHC has been liking and publishing almost every outfit out there! HHC is a great platform to call spade a spade and may be promote local small businesses considering tailor shops are mostly mom- pop or women run shops!

  5. The kurta is begging for a dupatta (because of the fitting). Regina is looking nice and i knw a lot of people said the color is meh but i think thats pretty too depending on if you can carry the color. Its the fitting of the kurta. Its basically a salwar kameez type of fitting on top and is not at all working well with those pants without a dupatta. When I first noticed pakistani actors models wearing these type of salwars/ pants, one thing i noticed was the cut and fitting of the kurta worked really well with those pants. So this is a thumbs down.
