Fab In Fucshia?

Comment image 84

I first saw these pictures and instantly loved the fucshia on Ms. Mukherjee. But, on a closer look, I think the design of the gown is quite weird. I don’t mind the side-tie but the length really bothers me and those shoes are way too chunky for this delicate piece. But, oh the color ‘almost’ makes up for it.

So close to Fab but still not there yet. For me, at least. What about for you?

Update: Ms. Mukherjee carried a Fendi satin clutch.

    • actually even the makeup alone has so many flaws!! Lets take the eyes– its a smoky eye that does not even cover the “hooded eye” … so inturn you have a Raccoon eye thats dark and deep set but looses the almond shape that it should have!!

SO WRONG … who did this?? where are her stylists??

  1. The color is the only positive thing about this look. The gown does not work – maybe it’s the tacky silver decorations and the drape of it. Then the black clunky shoes are all wrong. I also don’t like her makeup – too dramatic.

She is trying but I wish she had worn a sari.

  2. Does not work for me
    I detest the eye make-up
so cakey, ewwwwthe gown has no definition whatsoever

On an aside “Paltadacho Munis”(the man beyond the bridge) a konkani movie shot in karnataka, India is being screened thrice at the toronto film festival. Cool na! whereas Whats your rashee and dil bole hadippa have only one screening each! Yayyy for REAL CINEMA!!!

  3. I LOVE the makup and hair…it so suites the “glamour of the dress” (should of forgone that jewlery though) and I always love a bit of drama ;)
The color and jewel detail on the dress are also fab and (paired with ther eye-makuep) really pop her honey colored eyes…but the SHAPE! Shillouette is the MOST IMPORTANT thing on a dress, if a shillouette is flattering, you can most likey pull it off. THIS IS NOT. The dress is made for a waif with legs that go on forever, which rani is not (not that there is anything wrong with that). The jewels are tacky.
Also, for all of you guys that talked about her “insecurity” and lack of confidence” :) I’ve always disagreed. I still think she’s just someone not into fashion who gets bad advice (and takes it, the blame is still on her).

    • If she were not into fashion she would stick with what she feels comfortable in, but she clearly does not do that at all hence, lack of confidence and insecurity.

      • who says she doesn’t feel comfortable in this? Most of her outfits recently have had a “maxi”-very loose feel to it which I think would be a lot more comfortable for her than a form fitting dress. She clearly is choosing what she feels comfortable in.. she probably saw this colour, liked it and thats that.. unfortunately this type of silhouette makes her look a bit shapeless which sucks because she should be showing off the body that she has now!

  4. It looks like she’s trying sooooooooo hard to fit in with the younger actresses by wearing outragious outfits. Besides the color of the dress and the earrings.. nothing works!! Hell NAH!!! for me!

  5. i loved the first pic on the left (the closeup)….then the excitement went downhill with every single pic. i dont mind the side tie as much, but the way the dress is short from the middle and long from the sides, bothers me. dont like her hair either. but her earings and color of the dress n the details on it are fab!

  6. I’ve noticed that ranis been really desperate to look ‘high-fashion’ this past month or so. Its not really suiting her at all poor thing, she should stop trying to compete with the Sonam Kapoors and Kareenas and just be herself.

    Reply
    • yep, poor thing! pity her that she dares to aspire to be in the company of acknowledged fashionistas when she doesn’t have fashion DNA! people like rani and vidya ought to know their place and embrace their inner behenjis ;)

i don’t think rani’s look here is all that but patronizing remarks bring out the fight in me. in particular i have severe allergy to denigrating terms like behenji (which hasn’t been leveled here) but often are when discussing the Vidyas and the Ranis.

      • Sonam does not have the body for seriuos high fashion. I like her magazine pics, cuz they are photoshopped, and the girl has right attitude. However, her appearance in public events are not always not that impressive, what with majorly chunky arms and flabby stomach.
Where do I even start with Kareena? Have you even seen her pics/movies before her weightloss and hiring a stylist?

Same goes for entire Bollywood. Not so long ago the idea of high fashion in Bollywood was Nita Lulla or Abu Jani etc outfits. Shilpa, who won’t anything less than Ledger and LV was a Miss Sixty and Zara girk, yes the same stuff mere mortals like us wear. Before the infusion of corporate and Western studios’ money, the idea of high fashion in Bollywood streched as far as Indian designers and mass market western chain stores.
Now what with the economic boom and hefty paychecks , everyone in bollywood is a Leger girl. Ha!
It took Rani a bit later to wake up and adapt. So what? I don’t think Rani is a Behnji type at all. She has given some pretty sexy performances. She can do western.

I am sure you guys mercilessly criticizing her have the perfect body and perfect dressing sense, yeah quite sure.

          • Well said Zee. The Sonams and Kareenas hardly have developed their own unique personal style, it is adapted from the international scene, as with pretty much everyone in the world bar a few. With a new movie, and new body, it makes sense that Rani should get people talking and get a new stylist so that people have another thing to talk about: her clothes. It just makes business sense. It does not mean she is trying to compete with other younger stars, she’s just trying to build hype about her promotional tour*. Perhaps her forte is not fashion, and that is fine, because she is an established actress in her own right.

*Because I seldom read P&P’s sad commentary, I don’t even know if she does in fact have a movie out, I just assumed so because there are so many pictures of her everywhere. See, her tactics work.

          • For gods sake! Its like nobodys allowed to have any opinion on anyones clothes apart from ‘they look fantastic’ – well if I think they don’t I can shout it from the hills if I want to and if people don’t like it they shouldn’t be reading these blogs!

          • t & Z… it cracks me up that ppl can even compare rani’s fashion sense tp sonam / kareena…

Kareena and Sonam may / may not have perfect bodies.. but wharever they wear.. whether its suits or short skirts.. they carry it with confidence and panache (Something i doubt Rani knows to spell, leave alone exhibit)..

Btw .. what “Sexy performance” has Rani given that doesnt reek of desperation.. her bra photoshoot or her laaga chunari mein daag scenes…

  7. First – The color is spelled fuchsia, like the flowers, named for a man called Fuchs.

Second – Much as I love Rani and the color of this gown, there is something wrong with the cut of it.

Third – I like her eyes here, but the lips might need more color to stand up to the intensity of the dress.

  8. Thumbs up to the color. Thumbs down to the awkward length and silhouette of the dress. I’m still cracking up at the second pic..whats with the pose..as if she’s trying to balance on those chunky footwear by holding onto the wall. lol.

  9. I saw some more pictures and had to comment again. She completely ruined the look with her accessories – black clunky looking shoes, black fuddy duddy clutch, black chunky watch and big jewelry (huge diamond ring and bracelet). It is all too much.

  11. even though she’s lost weight and is styled well she just lacks the personality and oomph to carry off these looks and do these photoshoots justice!!

  12. the only thing i’m concerned about it is how at least something works from this whole dress, compared to some other disasters.

but people, yeh ok so she does look a bit awkward…but cmon, if she wants to fit in, she may as well. She’s not so old that she cannot try something new. and whenever you try a new style, you obviously aren’t sure of stuff…she’ll learn the ropes quickly enough.

  13. Have to agree…the length is weird and the shape is unflaterring. Delicate silver stilettos would have worked better. The jwellery is great though.

  14. I just wanna say, i was there and she looked gorgous! the pictures definitely dont do her justice. the only ONE thing i would change is her shoes..but otherwise, she looked great and definitely held the whole premiere on her shoulders. she rocked and was the sweetest thing ever with ALL the fans! love her loadsss!

  15. Wow-it’s bad. It’s really bad. Don’t like the dress at all. Don’t like it on her even more. And she’s toned up but this just makes her look bulky. Her arms/shoulders. I feel the brickbats coming at me but no lies it really does look just odd to me-her arm against the wall in that second pic. She works saris wonderfully-wish she had worn a nice sari instead. This is as bad as the Dus Ka Dum one for me.

  16. to me she looks a bit like gauri khan. our indian actresses are looking very alike. so boring and doll-ed up. what about letting go and feeling comfortable with nature?

  17. ohhh Rani…. beautiful actress again trying very very hard..! Who said stardom was easy to maintain ;-)
I hope it dies down after the movie is released and she returns back to her gorgeous saris!

  18. No, no, no…the dress is not working for her at all though the colour is decent. She is looking so short! And of course, she has terrible taste in shoes! She is not looking comfortable either.
    Hell Nay!!!!

  19. She is a great actress. And looks like she is trying to be more fashion conscious like the other actresses these days. She just needs to figure out what kind of western wear flatters her looks. I would give her credit for trying.

  20. Man oh man, would people calm down?

The lady looks absolutely gorgeous, is carrying off that gown with such unfussy confidence and such grace, it is refreshing. Really, cheers for Rani.. she owns this risky number! She has the face and now the body… and man, she’s enjoying it

But man oh man, the amount of bashing here is just nauseating. Would you ppl stop pigeon-holing celebs and just appreciate when you see a good thing? For once?

    Phew!

    • Wow you’re very clearly forcing your opinion here. We HATE it!
And we’re saying it. Isnt the comments section MEANT for that??? What’s the problem? Not everyone thinks “she owns” this “risky number”.

      • Clearly this look/ensemble/celeb invokes hate it-love it kind of reactions and depending on which side of the fence you are on, you just frown at the other side.

My bad. Apologies lady, didn’t mean to offend at all.

        • I agree with you K, whether or not people like this outfit is one thing and of course you can express your opinion on the clothes as that is what this site is about but I do agree that people on this site pigeonhole actresses as you put it. They are very partial to certain people, they only want people like Rani and Vidya and maybe Amrita Rao to stick to Indian “behenji” clothes and any time they venture outside of that they get hated on and are “not confident” and “desperate” and “trying too hard to fit in”. It’s ridiculous.

          Reply
      • Sorry Ritu, but i agree with K

Its acceptable when someone doesnt like ger gown/ make-up/ shoes or even Rani herself and states it so.

But making comments that shes desperate/ trying too hard/ trying to fit in, stating that she doesnt know how to spell panache.. thats just TOO MEAN! And how do you expect her fans to keep shut on such comments?

        Reply
  21. Oh please, we all know the dress is a badly tailored tacky mess and the make-up is horrendous. If Aishwarya Rai stepped out in this there would be 300 posts bashing her (mine included, for this garish fuchsia ensemble would look ghastly on anybody). I am baffled to see people praising this dress. ‘Ugly’ does not even begin to describe it. It looks like it was stitched 2 minutes before the premiere…I mean look at that metallic decoration: it isn’t even aligned properly! And parts of the dress look like it is being held together by pins.

    • agree. I think people feel forced to say they like it because there is clearly so much hate against it and so it makes her fans defensive, which is what usually happens with Ash posts as well.. people are always “hate or love” with these two girls for some reason. As a Rani fan I like the colour of the dress but let’s face it.. it’s a pretty coloured sack as someone else said. She could do with a more figure flattering outfit.

  22. I watched Yuva on TV last night and all said and done she owns a saree much better than she does this dress. i dont see why people get so het up if you make that comment. some people DO rock dress Western wear and as yet, she isnt one of them. Can she try? Yeah sure.. but then there will be feedback and not all of it can be positive and I dont think that is a bad thing. I am sure she is omre than capable of telling people off if they walk up to her and tell her she inst looking good.

that said – love the colour of teh dress, hate the shape, hate the shoes. this dress is for a woman with thin arms and a bigger bust. she’s the opposite

  23. She is looking lovely-yes the silhouette is all wrong, the shoes are horrid, but the colour makes up for it-love her makeup and hair. Indian have a negative mentality of pulling down everyone-what do folks mean she is trying too hard- why should she not try hard to look good-is wearing western clothes trying too hard? She has lost a lot of weight-let her try different styles, am sure she willfind her groove somewhere.Even the jewellery is lovely. I loved her in the Hi spread as well-again folks took off-she does not need to do this-etc etc

  24. She looks fabulous guys…again I too saw her in person and she looked absolutely beautiful! There was so much press and all the photographers were muttering how they thought she was gorgeous! And, she carried it off very confidently while interacting with the fans and the media. Everyone there was overwhelmed by how nice and beautiful she was!

  25. i think she looks gorgeous..well her body language seems to suggest that she is uncomfortable but if we talk about the LOOK only i think she gets full credit…i love the color on her and the make up and hairdo are just apt!

  26. The dress colour is absolutely lovely but the dress it self is not very flattering.
She looks nice but how i wish the dress fared tad bit better.

  27. Dont think she carried it off well… the whole look spells ‘trying to hard’ to look hot and happening…

She has beautiful eyes..sigh…the attempt at pouting (in the 1st pic) is unsuccessful :)

the color of the gown is lovely…but ends up doing no good for ms. mukherjee coz of the bad fit.. and i felt the design on the gown is very tacky! but yeah this is better than mallika sherawat’s monstrosity…

Hey P&P, its spelt ‘Fuchsia’ you guys have spelt it wrong all through the post.

  28. its a lovely color, the dress would have been good if worn with the right shoes, its has an asymmetric length and a delicate sandal would have looked better with it. ofcourse the blingy thing on the dress makes it look a bit cheap.

Her make up , eyes especially is so bad, very cakey. Simple makeup with that big warm smile would have done the trick for her. I like her hair, its interesting and goes well with the dress.

shoes for me would be the biggest miss.

  29. Although I really like the color, the shapeless dress is doing nothing for her newly toned figure! She looked better at the other recent promos for DBH.

Her shoes are a mismatch- to clunky- I would have suggested a less clunky, more strappy dull silver heels w/ mild embellishments, and the purse is totally off….

To be honest, she looks like she is wearing a bedsheet thats pinned with a broche.

  30. The dress is veryy veryy ALBERTA FERRETTI-ish.
The look-alike embellishments have been presented throughout the SPRING 2008 collection.

Also the embellishments were also on the shoulders of Priyanka Chopra’s black gown (Love Story 2050 premiere)
