Raima In An Elie Saab Knockoff!

Comment image 28

It’s happened before where a designer has completely ripped an international label from head to toe and it happened again this year. Raima Sen was seen in a gown that was almost a carbon copy of a gown presented in Elie Saab’s Spring 2008 collection!

Tsk Tsk… I used to admire this girl and am hoping she just didn’t know!

  1. How do you tell the original from the fake? To me both seem the same. Apart from the copied dress, the lady looks lovely!

  2. Never Mind,
The craftmanship on the waist line.. The Saab is far superior while Raima’s had real lousy details.. It is also missing the detailed sequin on the bust and the left side…

  3. The funny thing about knock-offs…for the average person…they are forgiven( given the sky-high prices of the original) but for a celebrity = Uh oh!! It’s great how they can also take cover in the idea of Ignorance Is Bliss! or maybe some just don’t care :)

    anyhoo,Raima looks good here…

    P & P,

had a question…is it only recently that our Bollywood actresses have started wearing international labels ? I mean in terms of dresses…I know they have been carrying lbrand name accessories for a while now…but what about these dresses?

  4. Bsimple,
International brands have become more mainstream now because of their entry into India..and with that they have also started approaching stars to wear their label, which is why you see more of them wearing labels.. Previously it was easier to buy a bag from abroad rather than a dress…

  5. i dont think she would’ve known…and even if she had, she must have just worn it anyways…thinking, “close enough”…like what Bsimple said about wearing knock-offs for normal people is ok.

say, if i saw that dress, i wouldn’t have a clue that that was an Ellie Saab rip-off, unless someone with the 911 on fashion told me about it. lol

  6. P&P, what do the stars do with these dresses? they just wear it once and then what?? they buy such expensive dresses just for an event and then its a waste? or may be we’ll see them on high heel for repeating the same dress for 2 events, but still do they really spend so much for each bag / shoe / dress????

  7. I too have been wondering about these so called desinger labels that indian celebrities or socialites are wearing these days….perhaps like the poster above mentioned only a handful of them like the wives of super rich industrialists or mega stars could afford such exorbitantly priced clothings. or maybe it’s the booming indian economy that’s raised the purchasing powers of average celebrity who knows…..

P& P and other folks, do you guys think these int’l designers actually modify to cater to the Indian Rupee? I think we should take one or two pics to these fashion houses and contact the reps if they can verify. I am also a bit startled.

  8. Obviously raima didnt know. Do you suppose any of them really know their designers? Or are they supposed to? They wear what they’re given and walk.

  9. To Aditi, NeverMind and X,
After staring at numerous designers’ clothes, you know when something is the real deal and when something is not…
Unfortunately, some others don’t know how it works in India.. where people copy designers blatantly.. (with tiny modifications…)
And… really… one look at the work… and it is quite obvious…
Having said that… we will be the first to retract if this in fact IS Elie Saab…!

  10. I am very sure this is not Elie Saab, just a knock off. I am curious to know who the rip off designer is though. Hope its not G&N, both seem to be in love with copying gowns from international designers.

  11. It clearly shows tht is is a rip off. Look at the elegance and the white curve is made off. And the work on the gown is simly gorgoeus. The silhouette is flowing.

  12. No way is that an Elie Saab. The finish is not the same. The Elie Saab gown has a diagnal pleating on the bust and I don’t see it on Raima’s. And the embroidery pattern on the waist screams ‘cheap knockoff’.

  13. Who knows what the designer told her – she probably didn’t know it was an Elie Saab (which is stunning, by the way). When designers can fool a fashion icon like SJP for the SATC premiere, how can celebrities in India keep up?

  14. Desdemona,

celebrities dont have to necessarily buy these clothes or bags or shoes..

they can rent it from the designers or usually the designers let them wear it for a event..

infact.. i d seen an interview.. where a bollywood celebrities order bags, shoes, dresses through stylist who will source them for a week or a month from any part of the world ..

if they buy, then they repeat..

  15. the original is waaay better than the fake.. the detailing at the waist and bust are way off.. and not that fine. I think someone with a thinner waist was needed for this dress.. ooo imagine PC in this!
