Going Strapless

Preeti Jhangiani and Dolly Sidhwani (wife of producer Ritesh Sidhwani) wore saris with a strapless blouse. While, Preeti wore a bright yellow number, Dolly chose an ombré pink sari.

Dig either’s sari or neither’s?

  1. Yellow sari’s better — but I absolutely had the strapless blouse! Does anyone in Bollywood know how a real sari and blouse look and are worn?! I don’t think so!

  2. they both look like they’re trying too hard to be glamourous. it’s better to look effortless or nonchalant when it comes to fashion.

  3. Is it the new style or none of these people know how o drape a sari. It looks real cheap and weird when people wear it like this people are. Sari is a very multifaceted garment and goves a lot of scope to improvise, however that does not imply you can just drape it as you want. This is afterall our national dress.

  4. I hate the blouses.

WTF ever happened to dressing without stuff bulging out from everywhere.

The only one who dressed decently was Karisma, but apparently it was too ‘dated’ since she wasn’t half naked.

  5. I am looking at all these sarees from the wedding reception and wondering where did the beautiful kanjeevarams, banarasis, oriyas went. Why all these blingy sarees?

  6. I agree with word Ruhi said .. what happened to classy and traditional why the need to show so much skin? You are not in an item number!!

  7. If I can get past the odd sari drapings, I think the colors they chose are very flattering to their skin tones..it makes them look very nice.

BUT: the draping! I know traditions get upgraded or called outdated all the time, but really, you just can’t go wrong with a well draped sari. It looks beautiful on anyone…ladies, give it a try!!

  8. Maybe what they are wearing is not a traditional sari but a dress similar to sari. There definitely is no rule that either the attire is absolute western or the traditional sari. There are tons of options in between.

  9. I say why don’t you guys make peace with the fact that the new saree draping trend is here to stay awhile. The saree has seen much transformation over the years and has still managed to be around. So, for all the I-want-to-save-the-saree-from-the-wearers, make your peace with it. It is alright. A boob showing in a tight T or a dress is okay but not in a saree? A dress NEEDS to look different each time, why can’t a saree? So, enough with the bashing already.

  10. well i know we dont like the one-boob showing trend here.. but some how preeti looks not so bad.. i mean she’s the first one who is looking fine without looking cheap! love the color on her..

  11. Priti looks lovely and fresh. I love the sari and the color.

I agree with Rashi. I think a sari has so much room for creativity, why not play with it? I think the style of sari should decide the style of the blouse, and the style of sari and blouse should decide how it should be draped.

  13. I dont think its the drape but more that the saris looks like some small town “dejhiner” version, would be nice to see a more elegant (whether kanjeevaram or otherwise more indian looking even richer color) sari draped in an appealing way.
These saris look too wannabe not that i hate them but i would never wear such a piece.
Both are or and i prefer niether.

  14. i do’nt see what’s so wrong with how the lady on the right has draped her sari (other than the fact that it’s not a very pretty sari). preeti’s looks alright, but like someone else mentioned, i think it’s one of those pre-made ones. and neither of these women are trying to look cheap or anything, you can tell just by their facial expressions.

i agree with those who have accepted the evolution of the sari into what it’s become today. some people wear it well and some don’t. get over it. yes it’s teh national costume, but last time i checked, india wasn’t stuck in a time rut or anything. so there.

  15. if you have a healthy set of boobies forget wearing a strapless blouse – it will do nothing for your “girls” oh and if your anything but a twiglet don’t wear things that essentially flatten your boobs to your chest because you will end up with really unflattering armpit cleavage which isn’t a good look on anyone. don’t really like either sari.

  16. I think the lady on the right looks lovely and elegant. I just wish she’d pull her pallu over a little bit.

Preeti’s is some kind of a weird sari dress, and that in a terrible colour for her.

@rubywoo, I don’t think twiglets look good in strapless dresses. I’d rather see natural armpit cleavage than flatness!

  17. Rashi – You read my mind! :)

LMAO!!! Hellloooo people there is MORE THAN ONE WAY TO WEAR A SARI!!! I always thought that the whole point of a sari is to play around with it and be creative. How many times can you wear a sari the same way?

I mean its 2009 already and Indian women don’t need to confine themselves to the standards of the past. A woman should be able to wear a sari (or whatever it could be) however they want without OTHER WOMAN degrading them and saying how ‘slutty’ they look.
