In Wendell Rodricks

At the shows, Maria was photographed in a Wendell Rodricks sari. Pairing it with a cheery yellow floral blouse, she finished out her look with a potli, jewelry, bindi and hot pink lip color. Not much to fault here; Ms. Goretti looked lovely!

Just because you’re doing an “off-beat” combo doesn’t mean it has to look good. I don’t like the sari. Get such a kraantikaari vibe.

      • Ethnic minimalist design with mela print equals to krantikari? To me now handloom saris equal to a well read, confident woman of sophisticated taste who is proud of her Indian roots. She looks lovely and unique – great fashion methinks.

        • I think that’s a matter of perception. I associate such white cotton sarees with a bland coloured border with “old world” with no charm (sorry if that sounds rude). It reminds me of the time women were a part of freedom struggle and they dress up this way to attend gatherings. This doesn’t mean that I don’t like such sarees. I just don’t like this particular one! I know where you’re coming from when you say “handloom saris equal to a well read, confident woman of sophisticated taste who is proud of her Indian roots”, and I agree with that line of thought for I too feel that way, its just that I don’t like THIS saree. (Hope you get my point).
Even that aside, I don’t like this combo either. Somehow looks a sever case of mismatch. The saree is too milk white for this yellow.

  1. Wendell Rodricks has far nicer cotton sarees than this. This one’s unexceptional, and I say this as a fan of ecru handloom cottons. But Maria does a great job in dressing it up.

  2. This is like a faded sari belonging to a Missionaries of Charity nun in Calcutta worn with a random yellow printed blouse you would get in a roadside stall. Absolutely ridiculous.

  3. Looks like Mr. Rodricks got inspired by the missionaries of charity? Also, not every mismatched outfit is going to look good, and this is one of those.

  4. Love the saree as well as how she’s paired it with the yellow blouse. It doesn’t have to be ‘fancy’ or different to be designer wear. It is refreshing to see designers design such simple sarees(even though such designs were already available in the market) and people wear them. Nothing beats simplicity and in this case, the simplicity of a garment.

  5. There is no way that saree does not not look like a missionaries of charity (mother Teresa’s home) saree or for that matter a school uniform saree or a uniform for ayahs etc. It’s not excusable in the name of fashion. The blouse her hair and makeup and jewellery everything is lovely. But that saree is just two step ahead of being “earthy”. Big no no.

  6. This saree is not that great. Nor is the pairing with the blouse. Full credit to Maria for injecting so much personality into the saree. For that she gets a thumbs up.

  7. She looks lovely, there is just something about how comfortable she looks that reflects through. Yep the saree is boring, but Goretti looks gorgeous. Heart the blouse and necklace.

  8. Love the blouse. Saree not so much. Looks like something to wear when a social worker is going to a village. Not that it’s bad, but definitely not event appropriate.

  9. Can someone tell me where I can get these bright prints, Manish Arora style. I know these are meant to be “common” but very hard to find. Any websites that sell these?
