Is Raw Mango the only place to buy handloom sarees in Mumbai? I am curious, being from Calcutta it’s a little odd to hear the comment section echoing with the name every time someone is spotted in a traditional weave. Surely one can buy a saree elsewhere in Maharashtra where saree weaving is such a widespread practice?
No No there are lots of local shops as well..its just that the name has got stuck in people’s minds
But but but didnt you know Raw Mango invented the handloom saree?!! Sarees didnt exist in many minds before they got a brand name ;)
Raw Mango does Chanderi sarees, whereas this looks like a block printed Tussar to me.

Actually in the general blingtastic “fashion” world, such saris are hardly common. Even among the ordinary small town sari wearing crowds, the Ekta saas bahu saris reign. Try going to a Diwali party or wedding or any “normal party” and see. This educated (my grand ma had a masters degree), upper class, gandhi family handloom sari aesthetic is dying. Maria looks good.
