In Georges Hobeika

The 69th Cannes Film Festival kicked off today in France and making an appearance on day one was festival regular Mallika Sherawat. At the screening of Cafe Society, Ms. Sherawat was seen in a strapless Georges Hobeika gown paired with diamond jewellery from Dessange.

I can’t say am a fan of the gown, especially the all-over striped pattern, but have to admit, Mallika did look nice. An updo would’ve been a better choice given the necklace and gown but am just glad to see her opt for more polished looks than outfits that were worn more for the shock factor.

  1. Surprisingly she looks nice, but I still can’t figure out like what are her credentials of walking the red carpet of Cannes every year?

    • Although Mallika Sherawat is not the star many want to represent India at international events but This is a common subtle insult people throw at almost every Indian and foreign stars. To be fair to them, It is but obvious that many photographers don’t know them and that is alright. Also, why would anyone photograph your back unless you are Beyoncé or J Lo, jokes aside cameras are on the both sides, clearly she is facing other side.

one need not be happy for people we don’t know but shouldn’t we also control our bitterness and shades for same reason.
It seem to be a trend India to pull down every star who tries to foray into territories outside especially if they fall into undeserving category by the so called elites and intellectual urban women whose judgement of your worthiness comes from clothes you wear, language you speak and how articulate you are.

      • Thank u for this comment; I don’t think there is any good reason to pull Mallika down; if she is a regular at Cannes, good for her, and she looks pretty nice here

      • Completely agree Jon Snow. Thank you for this. I commend Mallika because whatever she has achieved, she has achieved it on her own. Also, judging by Pic 2, I don’t see the same photogs any interested in clicking the people standing behind Mallika. Also, she is featured because photogs DID click her. ;)

      • Well said! Why go that far, even when P&P started featuring actors from down South, they got so many silly comments. Even after these many years you can see ignorant-stupid comments like who are these ladies, why should they be featured here blah blah. The irony is that Tamil & Telugu movie industry together make more money and movies than Bollywood. Tamil & Malayalam industry has the most number of national awards put together than other industries (if we are talking about content & substance). Comments like “oh she is undeserving why is she there” or “she is a great actor give her a free pass” is always funny to read. Like fashion even acting is subjective for the most part, it all boils down to who the commentator likes and plays favorites. The pulling down comes along with it that is all. Not everyone but the majority plays it that way. :P

  3. Yeah don’t know why she is at Cannes year after year? But seems these days Cannes is full of these little known starlets and ‘models’ who no one is much interested in. Still she looks pretty.

  4. How can u wear all those diamonds and not do anything to your hair ? It looks shabby
The jewellery is gorgeous though . Dress not so much.

  5. To all the snarky comments about what Mallika is doing at Cannes, she’s actually promoting a movie she’s in “Time Raiders”. I’m no fan of hers but find these questions really disrespectful considering most Bollywood actresses we see at Cannes are there promoting cosmetic brands and no one bats an eye lid as to whether they “deserve” to be there. Her dress is pretty and subdued but nothing spectacular. I saw her in a red gown at another site that looks more interesting.

  6. Anyone in the film business can go to Cannes; no actor or actress is more or less ‘deserving’ for Cannes. Whether we like their movies or their acting ability is our own personal choice. I like this dress on her. It’s refreshingly different from her usual outfits.

    • +1. Acting ability is for sure a personal choice, I always find the so called “good actresses ” , very average at the best particularly in Bollywood (discounting actors like Konkana & Nandita but of course and I don’t think they can be classified in mainstream Bollywood anyway ;))

  7. The irony and hypocrisy is that some of the commenters who are protesting and preaching here write the worst comments on this blog and try to pull down some celebs in a very disturbing way.

  8. There was another picture of Mallika wearing a silver colored gown..any chance of featuring that? She seemed to be workin’ it!
