In Hass Idriss

Malaika was felicitated with an award by the FICCI Ladies Organisation in Delhi on Friday morning and for the event wore a dress by Lebanese designer, Hass Idriss.

Right away, the dress with its bondage style belt and straps and plastic skirt seemed a rather odd pick for the morning event. We know as a celebrity, one feels the need to make a statement but this dress felt so out of place. A different and I might have been singing a different tune.

Also, I am now waiting to hear some nice monsoon rain related jokes! Come one folks, entertain me! :P

    • I agree. Event inappropriate for sure. But when the event itself so bizarre — FICCI is felicitating Malaika Arora Khan with a Young Achiever’s Award (for achieving what exactly?) — this outfit flies as well, IMHO. From a fashion perspective, this dress has more novelty than the done-to-death princessy gowns and apsrara-type saree gowns. And Malaika’s makeup and finishing touches are quite on-point so this look gets a thumbs up from me.

  1. omg…. I cam become designer too. In my olden times, I have seen village people, carrying grain sack ( that gunny sack ), cut from one edge and using it as rain cape. Thats a good idea.. I can bring that out as dress in fashion world. .. only I need to be famous first then come up with weird dresses.

Btw, are these celebs paid by designers to wear weird dresses? Next time she will come in grocery bag dress, straps on her shoulders.

  2. Ok take this one for starters: how do u wear a non functional umbrella? Corset the rods, and skirt the cloth..

She’s looking so good and also getting felicitated … wish she would dress well as well for an occasion for herself at least.

  3. This is one plastic dress that I hope doesn’t get recycled in her wardrobe.
It looks so ridiculous especially with the woman empowerment message behind her. super frustrating to see celebs do a complete waste of opportunity when given podiums on a platter. even if you don’t deliver a message, atleast refrain from completely watering down the cause.

  4. FICCI’s event n she turned up in this??? She is definitely not a fashionista because she neither knows how to dress as per her age nor, have slightest inkling about what to wear to the respective event/occassion. We know she is from glamour world. We don’t expect her to turn into tailored suit, though it would have looked good. She could have worn pencil skirt with some fun shirt. That would have been glam n event appropriate as well! Pheww!!

  5. She thought she was gng on a fancy dress competition…Any intelligent person would not take the risk to wear such a dress especially on such events..Guess she had no clue where she was heading to..

    • Or maybe she was at granny’s and got a last minute call to attend this event. She quickly pulled the plastic sheet off the dining table and wore it as a skirt. As she dashed out the door gran said ‘Here! Use my bondage vest and don’t worry about any chai or wine stains on my tablecloth! It will wash off the plastic very easily! Have fun!’

  6. I actually like the dress despite its umbrella-like skirt. But I agree that this dress was not event appropriate. Most people attend FICCI events in Indian wear. Even if she decided against it, at least show up in something formal? This is not an entertainment event, its a business event.

  7. “Young” – How? “Achiever” – Bigger How??? Have we run out of medal winning sportswomen/sportsmen that FICCI is felicitating her?? Coming to the dress now, who wears that for an award evening hosted by an industry chamber? Maybe she mistook it to be MTV Awards Night

  9. Total idiot she looks in the dress..if at all we can call it that. You are being felicitated (God knows why!), at least have the common sense to wear something formal– Indian or Western.

  10. The dress looks good on the model. On Malaika , its drowning her…its too long for her height. Seems like this dress is for someone tall.
