In Manish Arora

Katy Perry in Manish Arora again, no surprises there.

Payal and I disagree on this one, but, I love that dress. The train doesn’t bother me as much as it does Payal… However, I can’t wait to see this dress in a train-less version, have a sneaking suspicion it’d be much hotter in that avatar. Absolute Red Carpet awesomeness… Yes, am gushing like a schoolgirl! Am such a sucker for grey.

Katy paired her dress with Jimmy Choo “Zap” LED light-up platform sandals that actually light up. As funky and hot as they were, we can’t help but wish she skipped ’em. Those shoes deserve a starring role, they shouldn’t have had to compete with that dress.

Payal Says: As much as I love the pink on grey, the asymmetrical hemline is killing the look for me. Deal-breaker.

  1. this look is so kety perry-ish! i say this in a good way of course. i cant think of many people who could do manish arora justice, but katy perry is definitely on the top of the list of people who do. she has the quirkiness to carry off most wierd stuff, and that goes for these shoes too. and im glad she wore them. and as much as i lov the dress ( with the assymmerical hemline and all ), if we forget for a min that this dress is by an indian designer, i dont see how the shoes and the dress compete with each other. in katy’s defense, she probably needed those shoes to offset her unusual quirky side., which i admit the dress gives, but not to the katy level.

  2. Hmmm.. interesting. I like the dress (with the train) from the back. But it totally kills it from the front. I guess the reason is that the cut doesn’t seem well done – should have been an edgier shape – maybe triangular or some other strong line, even a square.
I love grey and pink combo as well. Payal, I seem to be agreeing more with you these days.

  3. The work on the model’s dress is exquisite. It really looks amazing. While I like the way Katy looks in the dress, the whole asymmetry is sort of putting damper on the lower half of the dress. I think you are totally correct, the shorter version is gonna look fantastico! I think even a full length dress without the asymmetry will look great. I don’t mind the train because you can see the lovely work on the train, but it definitely doesn’t look good with this version of the dress.

  4. I actually love the look, but I think a huge part of the love comes from the fact that Kate Perry is carrying off the dress fabulously. I think this is a case of right dress meets right person with the right styling, but would look absurd on almost anyone else.

Manish is a lot like McQueen in that sense, unless the right person wears his clothes, the edgy effect is totally killed and it just ends up looking ridiculous. I love the hair and make up as well.

  5. The jumpsuit on the model is edgy. The dress on the other hand looks like something you could pick up Forever 21. Nothing wrong with that, but surely not red carpet

  6. I think the dress looks great on Katy…even the train part and those shoes definitely need to be showcased in a mini….awesome. I like the dress on the model too….something so interesting and eye catching about the print and the color combination.

  8. I love Katy Perry (although I love her FIANCE more), and I think the dress works for her. It would have been better if it just ended at the shorter length, but the future Mrs. Brand pulls it off.

  10. i agree with payal… the train thing and the hemline are killing the dress. so is the choice of the shoes… i think it would have looked much better with a white pair of shoes. i love the print so much i would kill to own a knee length version of this dress.

  11. I think it would look a hell lot better without the train, but the train doesn’t look as bad from the back as it does from the front. weird huh? :)
