LFW Autumn 2009: ‘Barbie’ All Dolled Up

Comment image 24

Lakme Fashion Week started off with a show commemorating 50 years of Barbie. Several Indian designers had previously submitted their designs as to how they would dress the doll and the winning design would be then be worn by former model and now actress Katrina Kaif.

The show started off with Walushca Robinson in a pink Vikram Phadnis creation (already seen on Priyanka at the last LFW -see inside) and with models showcasing more outfits by various other designers. The winning design was Nishka Lulla’s, whose design was a tiered mini with a brocade bodice (as seen on Katrina). The best part of the show though was Waluscha’s daughter Chanel who while wearing a net gown designed by ‘The Shirt Company’ accompanied her mother on the ramp. So Awwwww.

  1. awww I love all these dresses! They stayed true to Barbie’s character with big, bold, fuffy dresses :) I reallly like the first row, and priyanka’s dress..they’re so big!

Jyoti Gupta’s design is actually very cute, something I could see on a celebrity.

Chanel is succcch a cutie :) Future model in the making!

  2. That winning Barbie dress is beyond ugly and it does not suit Katrina at all. Her shoulders are too broad for it.

Only the little girl looks cute.

  3. Jyoti Gupta’s design looks a bit like the winner Juli’s design from Australia’s Project Runway. But I love the tiny pleating details in Jyoti’s design

  4. Wow, Barbie…good ol’ days :)

Chanel is sooooo cute! And Waluscha really does like a princess…
For some reason I feel like Katrina is not doing justice to the dress.

  6. Katrina doesnt justify the Barbie look at all. She looks too broad and almost much older though she probably isnt. I can only think of Sonam Kapoor who could have looked like Barbie. But definitely not in that ugly dress.

  7. aww how cute!
Nishka Lulla’s dress is really cute, but Vikram Phadnis is more barbie-princessy like. i guess they gave it to nishka cuz her’s wasnt typical?
Abdul Haldar’s is terrible! why would you dress a doll – thats supposed to bring a smile to child’s face – in brown???
