In Manish Malhotra

Comment image 51

For her appearance at a recent event, Kareena picked a Manish Malhotra sari to wear. Smokey eyes, side-swept hair and diamond jewelry rounded out the actor’s look.

The signature Manish Malhotra ‘Bollywood-ized glam’ sari is right up Kareena’s alley. Question though is, do you like it?

  1. If this was 2007, then PnP would have called out on the bad drape and the pleats through their witty repartee. Now every post seems like a cop out with no comments vis-a-vis A list actors and designers. The funny witty commentary has evolved into Page 3 reportage.

        • Well, I made a comment about how Deepika should have asked Rohit Bal to design her a blouse matching with Ranveer’s sherwani and that wasn’t published. Not sure what policy that violated.

          • Since we manually moderate comments, sometimes it’s just an oversight. We’ve had commenters point us to it when that happens, and we’ve been happy to go back and change it. As is the case here. It’s just Payal and I managing it all, and sometimes we fall behind.

      • True and esp about Kareena Kapoor. So many of my comments dont end up on this site. Photos can be seen in any other website too esp now when the bloggers don’t even say anything more than “She looked good or its a miss”. And a 2 line critique often has typos and wrong names under the picture. We keep coming to this site for the comments. Most likely this comment won’t make the cut too.

    • Unfortunately, there’s only that many ways I can say this aesthetic is not my cup of tea. But, point noted and will work on it. Thanks!

      • PnP, I have been reading your site for ages too. While it does seem that you are generally less critical now than before, I think it is appropriate for your current stature. Years ago, you were a new blog and could be taken less seriously. Now you are a major commentator for Indian fashion and I think your policy of non-snarky commentary is very appropriate. You let us know that you are unhappy with a look, without needing to be negative – and that works rather well.

Plus, you now comment from your personalized perspective, rather than passing generalized comments. Overall, your comments remain critical but also positive looking. It is a very hard balance but you are doing a great job. Congratulations!

        • Sorry for being rude n not taking away efforts and hard of HHC team but this blog is not a trend setter in fashion. Having a limited set of readers and commentators it shows how over period of time while the success has been achieved by PnP the readers and comments have been going down due to “policy code” or turning this blog on page 3 reporting!!!

    • yes. tacky. and not the way a sari is to be worn. wondering if this comment will be published – as the only one i attempted before this as critical of an actress’ frozen face – as this one seems to be too.

  2. The saree is nice but what a mess Kareena has made of it ! She’s draped it in such a vulgar fashion….it’s like literally falling apart , just so she could show off the embellished blouse….. Her body language is also so desperate….like ‘ look at me !! ‘ very sad ! The saree deserved to be worn with dignity.

  3. She’s been having such a great run, but this is horribly tacky. The saree itself is not bad (the silk has a nice weight and overall is quite muted for MM), but the blouse and the drape are awful. Disappointing, because Ms Khan usually looks great in a saree.

  4. No – don’t like this sari . The untucked sari at the back looks like it exposes an inelegant petticoat . Just not a very classy look overall

  5. I am a Kareena fan..but for the first time I felt this outfit did not work for the event in question..

It demanded a more traditionally inclined ..less blingy saree… a masaba would have worked wonders here..

    • I get a feeling this silk was a pure unmanageable material which Slids as much you try to contain it.. maybe that’s y it came off the back lehenga , even her pallu looks like she was having a time holding it well, maybe the material. I wonder if actresses use saree pins while draping, they could have the utmost help available.

  6. Really hope this trend of “letting” the pallu fall down and sticking chest out is temporary. No saree ever needs that. The untidy drape and shiny material adds to there disaster.

  7. I guess there’s no subtle way of showing one’s cleavage in a saree? Might have looked nicer, had she covered her waist and let her cleavage show, instead of both. The rule of show one body part, cover another with western clothes applies here as well. Now, it seems at though she wants to show everything and doesn’t look very tasteful.

  8. Put this one Dia Mirza and she will drape it sensibly, cover the boob and strike a reasonably natural smile. Why is everything so forced and tacky with her. Its not the clothes, its most likely her.

  9. Agreed..this could have been a good sari sighting, but for the poor drape..I do wonder, has there been an occasion when Kareena has donned a traditional weave? For example a nice kanjeevaram.. would love to see her in one..

    • She wore a chanderi a few years back (in connection with promos, I think). It was black with zari. I remember being surprised by it because it was so simple and traditional, but she looked great.

      • She wore that sari because, Amir Khan bought her 2 chanderi saris from the weavers and gifted her. And he asked her to wear it. He was promoting handlooms at that time. Otherwise she would never buy a handloom sari from a weaver and she never wears handlooms.

  10. I completely agree with the comments that P&P in another life time would have written an objective 2 lines on the style & choices of the celebs. Instead now they leave open ended comments like “will you wear this”, is it your cup of tea, question is do you like it. People read this fashion blog for the bloggers comments on style choices and the alternatives that a person could have worn. If it was for seeing mere celeb pictures and identifying brands then lot of sites including rediff covers that. HHC now is so thin on content. You can write an objective commentary giving credit where due, calling out bad fashion choices, suggest alternate styles, and yet have a classy blog.

  11. This is just grotesque and so un-classy..I saw the video when Kareena was on the stage to be felicitated by some senior minister and her pallu was just falling off…I was embarrassed looking at her. There is a time and place for everything and our celebs need a session on that.

  12. Leave out the face and look at the picture again – looks exactly like Malaika Arora. The tacky drape, the body language and distasteful styling – what is going on with kareena her these days? She needs some styling 101 from her sister. As an emergency!

  13. Who dresses like that and drapes their saree showing off their boobs and waist at an awards function felicitating them?!! This woman is really out to prove a point I think. Trying too hard!!
