In Raw Mango

You know we love a good sari sighting and had a really good one today. At her sister-in-law’s engagement lunch today, Kanika was spotted wearing a Raw Mango sari paired oh-so-perfectly with a silver necklace and green Balenciaga pumps. The latter was just so unexpected and yet worked so well with the hand painted sari. Love!

Kanika is the co-founder of Brown Paper Bag Magazine.

  1. Hilarious. Those pumps are perfect with the saree? I think you were going for the word ridiculous.
First off, pumps hardly ever work with sarees because open toe sandals look much better. Second, these particular ones are especially hideous. Balenciaga or not.

  2. Had the pumps been in same shade of green as the motif on the sari, they would be fab. These are eye sore. Also, the drape of the sari is lot lame.

  4. Sari is nice although I’ve never liked pumps with a sari ( sandals look best ) just don’t seem to work . And those shoes look like cabbage :/. She looks nice otherwise . Haircut is so cute

  5. Though I like her take on this …..it’s risky to carry that off and a trite exhibitionist. And she does that with elan.
But let’s agree she looks like a desi elf !

  6. Say what? I see the trend here is that if a lady adorns a -raw mango- , despite wearing the said saree with bad drape & or bad accessorising, she still gets the high five. The saree (close to the border) has such a bad finish. Kanika needs a lesson on how to drape a saree, wear proper inner support and use the balloon sleeved blouse for something else or even better never wear it. Those shoes though not great (color is nice) can be savaged by a teen wearing it with a cute dress.

  7. After reading your glowing description of the look I was looking forward to being wow-ed! This is meh. Saree is pretty but those shoes are an eye sore – especially paired with that delicate sari.

  8. The pumps are seriously ugly (and I don’t use that word often). I don’t think pumps (particularly pointy ones) go with a sari in the first place but these pumps don’t belong with anything. The lettuce description above is apt

Also the sari while pretty enough is terribly finished for something that I’d imagine cost s pretty penny. It is puckering at the border – not sure why
And the blouse is not well seen at all

The only thing worth salvaging here is her beauty look…because her hair and makeup are lovely

  9. Designer or not, that sari is very ordinary and definitely not befitting a happy occasion like an engagement. The pumps don’t belong here either.

  10. I absolutely love this look!! It’s cool, it’s young and experimental – everything that confident fashion risk-takers are happy to create. Also, have you noticed the balloon sleeve see-through blouse?

As for the shoes, they’re gorgeous <3

P.s. – just found out that Kanika started the first Lifestyle magazine in braille… I doff my hat to that (though my thoughts on her dress sense are independent of this)

    • So much justifying required for one average or way below average choice in decorated description.
Whatever great work done, we can still pick on the kind of outfit choices.. ? the puff sleeved blouses are great but not this one, it’s clownish on this simple saree. Had it gone with a plane blouse in similar white shade and material of saree, the saree itself would draw all the attention.

  11. Pumps are not to be worn with a sari , and these ones are particularly hideous. Being branded with the name Balenciaga doesn’t make it chic, just expensive.
The sari looks low quality and too informal for an engagement, though I like the blouse.
Experimental implies chic and this is not, though if she changed the shoes she’d look ok

  12. I love this look!! Boho-chic and youthful. People are veering into hater territory in the comments. I don’t understand. She looks wonderful.

  13. I don’t understand the extent of hate in the comments. A first quick glance and I find the look quite striking and effective even in its simplicity, actually more so because of it. Loving the drape and the sleeves of the blouse — it falls in such a dainty fashion. The finishing of the saree could’ve been better around the borders and I’m not particularly fond of the satin like cheap finish on the bodice of the blouse. Having said that, my first impression was definitely wow, it’s when i look into the minor details that I find faults. The pumps are deniably a big NO, no two ways about that.
