So Miss India didn’t even make the first round and then I have to see Ms Isha Koppikar, who is one of the judges, in this monstrous hairdo! Jeez! What a waste of time!

As for what she was wearing, TOI reports that Manish Malhotra provided her with a gown for the event.

……………..

Update: So, turns out it ain’t Miss India who won the National Costume award! She alongwith nine others were selected as the winners of the top 10 best National Costume show. Click here to see the article.

Yep, mansa, even I was surprised to see Ms. Thailand win it…

  1. I thought of the same thing when I saw her on TV..that hairstyle is so outdated and should be banned. On another note..one of your previous posts was about Ritu Kumar’s design winning the national costume award…Ummm..don’t think it did, Thailand won for the best National Costume Award.

  2. AHHH GUYS thanks for putting up a spoiler alert.. it hasn’t aired all over the world yet.. I’m in Vancouver and it starts at 9 down here… oh well.. am sad Miss India didn’t make it through the first round. I didn’t think she had the right look anyway for some reason. Lara Dutta was a wicked Miss India so far no one has topped her.

  3. Sharin,
Ooops! Sorry about that! Well, you can look forward to one of the contestants giving a completely random answer to Isha’s question in the last round!

  5. LOL can’t wait! Aarthi.. I know!! ..I was so proud of being an Indian when Lara won.. I cheered. She won the bikini round too which I was not expecting for an Indian girl (I guess I was still backward in my thinking and expected her to come out in a one piece lol)and she just seemed so classy and intelligent. I loved her accent and her voice. She really made an impact on me I still remember her answer to the final question. Gave me goosebumps *corny but true*. Oh and I loved Miss Universe Natalie Glebova she was beautiful too. Go Canada! Alrightyyy gonna go wait in front of my t.v! Bye ladies!

i was kinda bummed that Miss India didn’t even make it through the first round, but there’s always next year!
i don’t think anyone can even be compared to Lara Dutta, she was the best, and she knew how to walk right!

  8. one gown was by Manish Malhotra n one other was by Roberto Cavelli, he personally offered to do one for her as she claimed in her TOI interview

  9. jen,
That’s what she said, but looking at the work on the gown in the picture, it seems more like a Manish Malhotra than a Roberto Cavalli…

  13. It is indeed a bit strange shes on the panel! the description is really idiotic!

Isha is such a pretty face..she would have looked
so good in anything. oh, the hair– just not working!

  14. she is sporting a 1080’s helmet hair do and it does nothing for her- I am all for desi ladies having shorter hair – but when ever they do they never have the guts to be truly funky or avant garde hence why most of them look like a desperate to be hip aging aunti ji

  15. I saw Eesha,Urmila and Malaika long time ago at JFK, that was when Urmila was one of the top actresses. I was floored by Eesha’s beauty. She is absolutely gorgeous, good skin too. Urmila and Malaika did not look half as good as her.

  16. i totally agree with surbhi.
call it a conspiracy theory, but I’m totally convinced that there’s some sort of correlation between pageants and economic boom. ok, maybe it’s a bit far-fetched, or is it?
the 90’s was the time of the sub-continent and we saw miss india win several pageant titles. the south american economy is headed on an upswing these days. with the euro crushing the dollar, you see a huge tourist boom in s. american.

did anyone notice how many of the top 10 were latinas?

  17. this whole conspiracy theories make sense…especally when you consider HOW Yukta Mookhey won Miss World!
i know these are different competitions…but still.

and Lara Dutta…my dear god, she was awesome! and Sush is also awesome…and Priyanka and Ash too…so the only undeserving one i can think of is Yukta.

and omg…Isha (sorry, Eesha just makes me relate her to Esha Deol lol) looks horrible here! i feel like cinging…but i wont be watching the show, it already aired here…and might come on as repeat tmr arvo…but meh, all i will get to see is a whole lot of fake ppl pretending to idolise Mother Teresa etc etc hehe

nice going gals…tadka laga ke! ;)

  18. Yes it’s interesting to see that the top ten were mostly latina’s… perhaps because they’re so stunning. Who knows. I’m not into the whole “conspiracy theory” thing for any competition. As for the judges.. I think Eesha would be a good judge I’m sure she’s been to modelling events etc and she seems somewhat knowledgeable…at least in comparison to Joey Fatone who I’m pretty sure judged a Miss Universe in the past. N I really really think they should go back to having one final question and all the other ladies in a booth so they can’t hear. Who’s with me? How are you supposed to judge/compare the answers otherwise :S

  19. I almost feel off my chair when they announced the judges…I’m still am not able to figure out how and why IshaK made the cut, I mean what qualifies her to be a judge????????? Then there was this birds nest of a hairdo…I could not understand what was with that wig! The dress…less said the better :((

Then Miss India was MORE than disappointing…she had ABSOLUTELY no charm/charisma/personality, there was no way she would have made it in the top 10. These past few years the Miss India’s have been quite awful… I’m not sure if the quality of the contestants have gone down or there is some nepotism happening.

Miss America falling for the second year in a row…now that is was sad and funny….coupled with the fact that both the trippin Misses were from Texas!!!!!!….maybe they forgot to teach them how to walk while wearing gowns as both tripped on their trains.

  20. Iisha is kinda misfit to be a beuty pageant judge altohugh she has done modelling herself. In my opinion she is not polished enough for her job, maybe coz I always associate her with being Inspector mar todkar character from one of her movies.
