Of Wedding Festivities

The Ambani-Piramal reception took place on Friday evening in Mumbai where the newly weds were finally spotted together. Surprising, the bride who wore Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla for her wedding and Manish Malhotra to her sangeet, opted for a custom lehenga by Valentino. Can’t say we are surprised.

The question is, will more international labels start catering towards the Indian market. We know Needle & Thread making a sari last year that was available on Net-A-Porter. Guess, time will tell!

Our congratulations to the newly weds.

    • Donkey ji, they do it better.
Remember the Ralph and Russo lehenga, exclusively made for Sonam’s first Cannes carpet appearance post her wedding? Mashallah was the word there and mashallah is the word here too…

    • Donkey, maybe this particular french chef got it very very wrong. No stand out outfit, no stand out jewellery, can’t make out who’s the mother, who’s bride, who’s the to be bride… everyone’ s so overdone. And what is the obsession with bollywood actors this family has!?

  1. She looks gorgeous in the AJSK and in the pink MM.

Its a good thing that Valentino outfit looks tacky. It is stop their Indian market experiment right there. T

  2. The Valentino is one bad lehenga, i would’ve preferred opting for a custom gown by Valentino if the designer was her preference. Also the makeup and hair is not doing anything for her in her reception look. All the other looks except the wedding are pretty standard fare

  3. I’m so surprised that the sangeet outfits are Manish Malhotra. Absolutely gorgeous. I love both MM outfits, pink one a tad bit more. Isha looks beautiful in these outfits. The least favorite outfit is the Valentino. That looks so bad!!

  4. AJSK and MM don’t even have to be labelled anymore; you can figure it out with their monotony. They are genuinely running out of ideas. Both the creator and the wearer of these outfits are a homogeneous unit now (Ambani-Bachchan-AJSK; we know who wears what). I know those outfits with those embellishments can buy me 153 times and sell me 757 times, but she looks good. Also, not to mention, she looks better than most of her guests who were competing with her in her own wedding. Happy to see her in a sari, talk about the gaudy lehengas that bore you.

  5. Despite the heavy costumes and labels and real jewels there is a surprising sweet simplicity to her look like an everyday wedding in which the bride is dressed to the nines. The Valentino is a no no however Stop the creams!

Wonder why Bollywooders fare so badly. Is it the pose, the craze for Padmavat jewelery. the heavy PR. treating a wedding like a photo shoot or costume drama. I don’t know.

    • It must be because she inherited the good qualities of both the parents, (the better ones) like beauty, brain, humbleness, calmness and administrative skills. She really is carrying herself in a classy way.

  6. This is exactly what i was saying…all lehengas! Why not a gujarati saree or a silk one…theres only so much styling you can do in lehenga.

    • love all her outfits but the Valentino… maybe since it was from her in-laws, its not in sync with the rest of the designs? I think its so sweet that she wore her mom’s wedding outfit! what a beautiful gesture!!

    • Right. A patan patola saree or any beautiful weave from Gujarat or anywhere from our country would have once again highlighted the lovely and rich weaves and the most talented artisans of our country.

  7. I think the Valentino costume is just subliminal. A class apart from the rest. So light… Just gorgeous!! Valentino is here to stay. Kanjeevaram weaves please, V?!!

  8. Wow her jewelry is so beautiful, but somehow despite being beyond expensive it is not looking overwhelming. Usually Nita ambani’s jewelry to me simply looks like a vulgar display of decadence, but somehow I didn’t get those vibes for Isha ambanis wedding.

  9. This girl has a stunning face but when it comes to choice of clothes let it be,a traditional Gujarati look ..was hoping to see little bit of Patan patola somewhere ,alas…one thing this wedding proved is that money can make monkey out any designer…

  10. Congratulations to the couple. And I actually do like all her looks. She looks regal yet not over the top, classy inspite all that bling, young and happy and real ! I am sure the Valentino lehenga looks better in other pics. She is carrying all of the outfits well. Atleast her wedding pics don’t look like an advertisement for the dress designer!

  11. I just don’t understand when you have access to every Indian designer why go to Valentino for a lehenga….yes, I get the idea of doing something new but asking the French to make Indian bridal clothes? Also anyone else thinks it looks like any old local designer outfit?

  12. The Valentino lehenga is one of the most atrocious thing I’ve seen lately…the fabric looks so cheap. All her other appearances are decent enough..I actually find them less bizzare and OTT than what I was expecting. Her mother’s were more gaudy and ostentatious. On a separate note, I have such a serious wedding and bling fatigue right now….can’t take it anymore. There’s still Priyanka’s reception t go. I feel dizzy.

  13. She looks much prettier than our present working Indian heroines and 100 times more classier than them. She looks great in all of them but she should have also worn some silk or sico saris, she would have looked even more stunning. It would have given even more variety to this beautiful heiress.

  14. Why must everything be so studded at all times? People end up looking like display pieces. The only saving grace is Isha has a Very sweet face. The only pretty dress is the red kurta one. All others are costumes.

  15. Although Isha Ambani is dripping in diamonds and draped with bling sequences and glitters all over , she is holding her own and is not coming across as garish or vulgar. There is a sweetness about her.
Can’t say the same about the mother ship though .?

  16. Given her family background, I like that she hasnt gone OTT with her looks. Its so much better than the likes of Deepika. Also glad that there is no Sabya – absolutely tired of seeing his creations/ styling.
The wedding lahenga is gorgeous. The Valentine is terrible…material looks cheap and the diamond jewellery doesnt go with the lahenga.
One complaint -wish there was a bit more variety – 3 looks with goldenish/ creamish lahengas and diamonds.

  17. Congratulations to the couple. I like the Red Lajjoo C and the pink MM lehenga the best. The others look very similar to each other. In spite of so much bling, ornate lehengas and heavy jewelry, she manages to shine through!

  18. The most beautiful thing in this entire bridal wardrobe was the single glimpse of her mother’s sari worn over her shoulder. Nothing looks as bridal, as festive, and as plain beautiful as that simple red Gujarati sari. Actually, I’m sick and tired of this cultural homogenity that seems to have taken over the Indian bridal look. The template for Isha was shiny lehnga-diamond jewellery-straight hair and she doesn’t veer away from it even once. She looks really pretty and happy but I’m so OVER IT.

  19. Ditto everyone. I am tired of this endless lehanga parade. Wish there was more traditional weaves , fabrics and some variety. None of the looks , from the bride , her mom, futture sister in laws, celebrity guets stand out. They all look the same to me by now. I think I have seen lehangas in every color along with diamonds dripping and I am done. But we are not done with the wedding season because there is still Priyanka’s recepetion. and the other Ambani mega wedding. I hope she cancels the lehanga and wears a sari.
Isha manages to look sweet and normal . Like her mostin the pink Lajjoo.

  20. Both the skirts of the lehenga by Valentino and Ralph&Russo look so lopsided. Westerners don’t seem to understand how to cut the skirt into a sleek shape yet giving it some ‘gher’. The skirts look almost Victorian with the illusion of the butt sticking out. Not flattering at all.

    • Couldn’t have said it better! The lehengas by these international designers look like gowns that are just cut or detached from the upper half of the gown. They can’t get the gheras right.

  21. I love all of Isha Ambani’s looks especially the red Lajjo C outfit. Personally don’t have any issues with Western designers entering the traditional Indian fashion space but obviously, Valentino has gone completely wrong here. It’s possible that Valentino outfit didn’t photograph well but Ambani’s being who they are possibly wanted to impress their international guests by associating with an acclaimed international designer. After all high-end brands are more about perception than style and creativity.

  22. It would have been lovely to see a patan Patola saree on one of the events either on Isha or on her
Mum. It would have given some diversity to her wedding looks and also the luxury factor considering a good one is quite quite expensive. The Valentino lehenga is also quite awful to me.

  23. Her jewelry is so beautiful. It is highly expensive but it was designed exquisitely and worn in an actual traditional elegant way. She looks beautiful and elegant in all her looks. I actually liked them all, but like everyone else even I wished to see her in some silk saris. It would have looked so rich. She looks humble and normal despite being the richest daughter.

  24. The “Valentino” lehnga looks like a giant plastic bag stuffed with left over Xmas tree deco .. if all the MMs AJs and SS weren’t enough expensive now they want a foren lehenga.

For once cant they reach out to some actual skilled weavers and make them custom create something exquisite and expensive… it would make such a unique statement in place of the lookalike blinged up lehngas

    • They gifted all the guests who attended these wedding functions Patola scarf/Khanduva. So that was a part where they gave recognition to their heritage. But yeah the bride and mother should have worn silk saris on the wedding day and they would have made a huge statement where the whole country had gotten attention and recognition to the weave.

  25. Isha looks radiant, happy and absolutely gorgeous! All her outfits are on point. i appreciate her going to an outsider for a fresh change. it has been boring the same top designers in the recent weddings. although to me sabyasachi is the rockstar! I saw some pics of Isha in a Sabya but maybe that was nto for the wedding ceremonies and something else. Nita Ambani seemed to me as if she was competing with her daughter – almost all outfits for all ceremonies seemed very similar to Isha’s with a slight variation. To me, that seemed awkward that a mother would compete alongside the daughter. smh. I hope Isha remains as sweet and genuine as she has been seen in these pics. Nita is a lost cause in my books so adamant about showing her wealth that she looks fake. Lastly, the diamonds are gorgeous… i think i will be blinded by these pieces if I ever saw all of them at once… gorgeous display of wealth! I am glad they blew their money with so many vendors taking advantage of their festivities… at least the money is now circulating than sitting tight in the Ambani treasuries. Congratulations to the couple!
