In Manish Arora

With just days remaining leading up to the release of the movie, the ladies are out in full swing promoting it.

Spotted what seems like a Topshop dress on Sonam and a Mandira Wirk on Amrita Puri but, what really caught my eye was the Manish Arora on Ira. Dang, she wears all those M.As so darn well!

It’s official, I have a serious case of envy. Forget everything else, am in lust with Ira’s wardrobe.

  1. sonam is fully trying to imitate Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl! i cant get over it! I actually remember this exact look on Blair in one of the episodes! y cant she be original fr once? Ira looks cute, but a little squatty. i like Rheas look best, i am a bit tired of seeing her in only trousers but.

    • The character styling of Aisha is not based on Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl, but it is a mix of Audrey Hepburn and American Socialite Oliva Palermo.

Aisha is an upper class Delhi girl, and if you compare their style to girls living on the Upper East Side or Sloane Square, the class style is very preppy/rah, its all very similar and has existed for years.

Blair Waldorf just simply brought the preppy/rah style more mainstream, her character is not an original.

      • spark, you are misinformed slightly. Blair Waldorf’s actual style icon is Audrey Hepburn, and this was seen on mainstream TV after a long time with Blair’s character in Gossip Girl. The character actually popularized this trend to a huggee extent.
Even if its not an exact copy, I think its pretty apparent that Sonam’s trying to channel Queen B.
(Its not an exact copy because Blair has better hair and makeup)

        • Sheena, Blair has become a major style icon for today’s gen . If you see nothing wrong in Blair channeling Audrey, why cant Sonam channel Blair?
Her hair and make-up are perfectly fine. Obviously in a film industry like Bollywood, where there is virtually no history of tasteful wetsern fashion in films to fall back on, she will have to look to foreign shores for inspiration. And Gossip Girl has inspired a lot of popular culture in the US as well, so its not only Indian celebs.
Sorry, but your comments seem unneccesarily spiteful.

    • Well, whether she is trying to imitate Blair Waldorf or not – at least she is trying. She’s breaking the mold – she’s doing something different than other actresses in her circle, no?

  2. I love Manish Arora. And trust me its not easy to carry, it needs tons of great attitude.

I love the way Ira is doing justice to so many looks, be it the crazy print dress, a high shoulder jacket, a micky mouse sequinned tshirt or a very structured manish arora style. Way to go Gurl

    • hahah! Like that ;)

Except the Ira has a funny cheeks pulled in expression that doesn’t do much.. but well am assuming its all for the ‘character’ as it seems!

I see a lot of things in Ira. Confidence, charisma, a hot bod, the ability to pull off different outfits and totally stand on her own without being overhsadowed by anyone else. Basically, her ability to rock her own space, however little it may be.

Been reading your comments on the recent Sonam posts, maybe if for a moment, you put aside your ‘Sonam Love” you might be able to see it too :)

  3. i’m a sucker for such abstract patterns ( and even prints) especially when done beautifully with colors that are just right hence i’m in love with this M.arora design however i do think that as a top it look much better than the outfit

  4. Wow! I am only envious of the fact that so many high-end designers have “lent” clothes for this film…confirmed by Sonam’s tweets.

Had heard of these designers bombarding Hollywood stars with racks and racks of clothes for promotions and events and now that is officially in full throttle in India as well…..

Aisha being a fashionable film in the mold of “clueless” and “sex and the city”…the designers must’ve felt it was worth it to give away closet full of clothes and accesories to all its leading ladies!

  5. Ira is rocking the MA dress..

Love the fact that they are all present for the promos. Its rare (in India) that the ensemble cast is at every event, and not just the lead actor-actress. We have seen so many hogging the limelight.
So sad that Abhay Deol is missing it all out, as he is in Spain.

  6. wow! very impressed with IRA…manish arora’s clothes are absolutely FAB but still a tad bit out there for your everday gal. i mean i often see his designs and go..oh i wish i could carry it off..but after looking at Ira ..it totally gives me the confidence..she is doing it so effortlessly and she doesn’t look like your katrina kaifs and aishwarya rais..just an ordinary gal with lots and lots of spunk!! loving her style

    • oh totally agree about ira’s character rocking the clothes during the promos. inspirational.

i love the stylist for this movie. he/she/they may be chanelling the gossip girl stylist(s) – among others- but i like the end result. its a fresh idea for bollywood. i saw a song promo for “we are family” and it had the trademark karan johar type styling and it looked so aged. hopefully desi movies will tap more into “aisha” kind of styling.

      • Totally agree. The fact that there’s room for Ira’s type of spunk (reminds me of Anusha Dandekar – shows that there is way more scope for styling than what is shown in KJo’s movies.

  7. It’s rather difficult to carry off an MA outfit, and Ira has been doing that rather effortlessly. Love the colors here, and the way she wears it.

  8. Rheas takin her producer role too seriously by spottin business casuals everywhere… Take it easy girl.. V all know u were the producer u need not remind us everytime u step out.

    • I think it’s just her natural style is more towards pants – and what she’s wearing is the current trend – a lot of people in Europe are dressed like that.

  9. I have a genuine doubt..How do they manage with such sort dresses when they have to sit in front of others..

A few minutes back a TV channel was showing how Rhea kaoor came to the rescue of her sister by placing her purse on the lap when they were sitting and answering the media.

    • As long as you remember to keep your legs crossed, you’ll be fine. Tons of women everywhere wear dresses this length without embarassing themselves.
