In Gauri and Nainika

Comment image 23

Its a different issue how this origami style gown looks so much like the Karen Millen design seen on Koel (see here ) but having said that, can’t believe how Narmada (Govinda’s daughter) ruined a gown that fitted her great with bad makeup and bad hair.

Guess, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, does it?

  1. The gauri-nanika copy is a big issue too. This is the nth time they have been caught copying foreign designs. Why are they not boycotted by the fashion media and Indian celebrities? Every big name wears their designs in public (priety, deepika, bipasha etc) . Are these people not worried about their own reputation as trendsetters or are they clueless when it comes to western fashion and are happy to wear copied designs as long as they are western designs?
The apathy and chalta hai attitude among Indians to blatant copying of foreign designs is the same attitude that encourages a system steeped in corruption.
When people like me who are passionate about Indian design and want to promote it abroad have such so-called designers as part of official Indian fashion shows, it becomes obvious that Indian fashion industry is made up of wannabes and it will take a long time before Indian fashion gains any degree of respectability (if at all). One swallow (Manish Arora) doesn’t mean spring is here.

    • I agree with Shivani completely….rt fm michael Kors to D&G..they copy each and every silhouette n then u c the top celebrities in bollywood wear them to iifa n others…..I am an upcoming designer too n it discourages us to think of r own….if such copycats r treated as A-league designers then i think all fashion colleges shud shut down n every1 who wants to b a designer shud just printout designs of foreign designers n just give it to the local tailors fr replication!

  2. I think P and P are a little biased here… I know that the makeup on Govinda girl is not the best but it is not that bad either. Would you say the same thing if it was not Narmada and somebody else here?

Disclaimer: I do not like Govinda or his sense of dressing and had no clue that he had a grown up daughter till now.

    • asli koel,
Our reaction would be the same to anyone who wears such a mature gown only to ruin it by wearing matte red lipstick and a hair style that is mostly seen on tweens. A good updo would have suited this look way better…

  3. PnP,

if its not too much, could you please tag all the “inspirations?” (read plagiarisms). Gets a lot easier to track them later. i was tryin to show my sis a few of these inspirations and couldnt track any :(((

  4. why don’t indian designers get sued? some of the designs are such rip offs that there is no way you can argue otherwise.
ironically, when the squabble amongst themselves and accuse each other, i have to take a microscope to find some sort of similarity.

P&P is there any reason that big houses don’t go after indian designers ? any sort of economical reason ? maybe they need some approval from Fashion Design Council of India to operate here, and they don’t want to get on their bad side. …..anything at all ? bec it just doesn’t make sense

it’s the hair, I agree, that needs work. The color is …dated, and the stle is unsophiticated,
    (p.s. it’s “fit* her great” ;)

  6. I think she looks good, atleast way better than many of the main actresses that you (the authors of the blog) claim to be ‘chic’…her red lipstick looks nice on her..whats wrong it it..and it goes with the black gown and the fact that the rest of her makeup is pretty plain..and PUHLEASE her hair looks fine, okay its not the best but its fine, nothing that warrants your statement of how she RUINED the gown because of her makeup and hair! You are so clearly biased. And it isn’t as though this is the MOST subjective look in the world I mean, you’ve commented on people who lets face it, looked pretty horrific and said that they don;t look at that bad and things like that.

    BIASED.

  8. Okay, can we not turn every disagreement into a personal angst fest. Thank you.

The problem I have with her hair and makeup is that it doesn’t match with the dress. She’s not styled according to the dress. She looks great in the dress but the hair speaks more school girl rather then red carpet. A simple bun could have made her look simple and more effective.
