Lakme Fashion Week Spring 2010: Day Four
In case you are wondering what happened to day three, it was a menswear-centric day and we’ll be coming back to it after we finish womenswear.
Imcha Imchen, Spring Summer 2010, Lakme Fashion Week
Taking inspiration from his home state’s attire, Nagaland born Imcha Imchen presented a collection of men and women’s wear in organic cotton and silk with vegetable dyes. ‘How Many Stories Can You See On My Face’ comprised of block print/double layered tops, draped dresses for women with pleated shirts and wrap around skirts for men.
Neha Agarwal, Spring Summer 2010, Lakme Fashion Week
On day two, we saw the innovative ‘Button Masala’ collection by Anuj Sharma. Day four also presented another innovation collection by Neha Agarwal. ‘I Stole From Him’ was rooted in two basic pieces: a long shift dress and an oversized net jacket. Neha combined several different fabrics like voile, silk, chiffon and net and came up with multiple creations that all stuck to the root theme of the one dress and one jacket. I, for one, loved the whole collection.
Myoho By Kiran and Megha Spring Summer 2010, Lakme Fashion Week
‘Breathe’, the collection by Kiran and Megha, consisted of smock dresses and pinafores in beige, white and black. Most of the dresses had a contrasting gold hemline or an underlying layer in a different print to form a contrast with the top one. The flowy silhouettes will appeal to a lot especially when you think of the hot summers that we sometimes go through.
Virtues by Ashish, Viral and Vikrant, Spring Summer 2010, Lakme Fashion Week
Virtues also presented a Bridal collection, ‘Forever’, but instead of using bold colors that we normally associate marriage festivites with, the designers went with a more muted color palette that consisted of sea green, beige and soft pinks. What I liked about this collection was the use of gold without it feeling blingy but what I didn’t like about this collection was the tailoring on some of the cholis, very ill-fitted on the models.

I don’t understand the reason you love the collection by the second designer..It’s making these super skinny model look..well for the lack of a better word, normal, what would it do a ‘normal’ girl like me!! It would be so terribly unflattering. The first picture especially reminds me of my mom’s nighties.
Not all collections have to be instantly wearable. Sometimes a collection is a creative expression. For e.g. Manish Arora creates whimsical creations for the runways but toned down versions for retail. Coming back to Ms. Agarwal, what I love about this collection is that Neha restricted herself to two main items and was still able to create many different pieces with those restrictions.
Didn’t Sabyasachi show at LFW this year? Why hasn’t he been featured here yet?
Sabyasachi didn’t show this year since his costume styling duties for ‘Pa’ and ‘Ravana’ kept him busy. :)
oh but he was there on the day 2 to watch!!! I found it realllllyy hard to keep myself from being totally star-struck! lol
Please put on pictures of Bridal Asia-Delhi too.Sabyasachi showed his bridal collection there.
Thanks
I really like your commentary on the pictures rather than just posting them.. it all makes sense for me now lol thank you.
Go Imcha Imchen. You have promise. Nice collection!
Awww, I love all of these. the organic cotton/vegetabel dyes make my vegan soul sing, WANT that first dress (please don’t be silk)
LOOOVE the bridal collection- it lacks the garish quality that most bridal blingy items have. I do agree that a lot of it is ill-fitting though, and tailoring is everything so… I’m not sure.
ooh, i so love the bridal collection.. a real treat for sore eyes!
Is it just me or are most of the Indian designers getting a lot of inspiration for Sabyasachi!
Thank you P&P! :)
Imcha’s collection is simply outstanding! It’s good to see such ingenuity and originality in a designer to bring about beauty and taste naturally. This may very well be a nice solace for all the controversy-tagged, fur-draping supermodels- go organic! Keep it up, Imcha!
