Wearing a Jade sari, Deepika attended Ahana and Vaibhav’s wedding reception with jewellery from Amrapali finishing out her look.

With the ombre sari featuring so much gold, the big jhumkis and the stacked bracelets felt a wee bit overkill. It wasn’t a deal breaker though, as she did look nice.

  1. “the big jhumkis and the stacked bracelets felt a wee bit overkill” – Are you guys really critiquing a indian wedding look ? I think she looks great and i don’t find any overkill here.

  2. I seriously think you guys are so biased towards Sonam. Seriously how are Deepika’s “stacked bangles and gold jhumkis overkill” yet Sonam’s blingy ensemble right down to her clutch is “a love”? I think Deepika looks beautiful here, and she is appropriately dressed for the event in question.

    • Umm, P&P love Deepika as much as Sonam. Sonam´s look was better executed, hence the praise imho.

Sonam´s look was well balanced with minimal accessories & “simple” hair —> no clutter. Yes, it was sequined out, but still gives a solid visual block, because no embroidery stood out. Had she worn even a single bangle, it´d be in the too much category.

The gold embroideries on Deepika´s saree are made to stand out, so the visual of the colors+ big accessories+ “big” puff feels a little much. Gold also is trickier to pull off than silver. One bangle less & Deepika would be better. Also neither the silver shoes nor the silver bangle are working with the look. They feel out of place, & only add clutter.

  4. The look is highly inspired by Hema Malini signature style…I personally feel it’s current dream girl giving yesteryear dream girl a tribute ;-)

  5. I looked and I looked again and still trying to figure out how you feel this is an ‘overkill’. Its and INDIAN wedding, this is how most people dress. Anything less is just plain rude :D.

  6. I know you guys don’t care about your obvious bias for Sonam being pointed out. But I can’t help say it. Sonam was completely overdressed for someone else’s reception. Looked more like she was dressed for her own reception. Deepikas look is not overkill at all. As someone said, this is how you would dress as a guest at a wedding.

    • And Sonam showed up like that for the sangeet not even for the reception. Most of us, long time readers of HHC have accepted the fact that HHC is biased towards Sonam. So guess you just live with it.:P

  9. She looks beautiful and is working it from head to toe. No overkill here. Its a perfect outfit for a wedding reception. You can never be too overdressed. Plus is she had to go overboard it would have included a maang tika or a nath (ref Sonam) ,but this is just right

  10. I love Deepika here! Very classic, very beautiful.

Now, to deconstruct your criticism, I have noticed that you have a problem with:

    1. Beautiful women
    2. Non-edginess i.e regular simple YRF-ey fare
    3. Indian looking Gold Jewellery

I see that you make an exception for the above when the look is obviously South Indian.

Speaking as a fellow south Indian, I think thats an ok bias to have :)

All you people who think this is Sonam favoritism are very very wrong :) Sonam wore lots of bling too, but hers was “edgy” and HHC likes “edgy” :)

    • What I mean is (I typed my first comment in a hurry from the workplace) that you prefer if beautiful women worked hard on their “looks”- that they shouldn’t wear simple clothes, just because they have amah-zing bodies and faces.

How do I know you think Deepika is more beautiful than the others? Well, certain Deepika posts have comments like “those abs/legs make wanna go jump on a treadmill right now” :)

You wonder why when Sonam, Neha, Sophie Choudry (your favorites by my categorization as well as others on this thread) et al, work so hard on looking “different” and “edgy”, why then does Deeps wear the same ol’ red lipstick, big bouffant, her favorite thongs, her silver/gold peeptoes and manage to look like a zillion bucks?

And should we, the HHC high preistesses give her a free pass just because she can work just a t-shirt and ganji? Or in this case, a simple saree, the likes of which we have seen in many a Yash Raj movie?

Well, some of us do :) Looking ethereal in something normal is not too bad, but I still respect you for sticking to your guns, be it your obsession for edginess or tied up hair :P

To complete my Freudian moment for the day, the edgy wouldn’t be edgy anymore if there was no mainstream…

  11. If you think this is an “overkill” (which it isn’t by Indian wedding standards) .. wait till you see pics of Rekha at Ahana’s reception .. that’s an overkill :’)

  12. Perfect Indian wedding look….. south Indian or north Indian, wedding outfits are meant to be looking grand! She is very lovely in this pic and event appropriate.

  13. I Hate the combination of that particular shades of pink and orange. The border seems interesting though. Wish she’d skipped those earrings, they clash too much with the blouse/border.

  14. Still waiting to be wowed by her in Indian wear. She looks beautiful though!

Kinda tired of her updos all the time. Hair down looks much more feminine and soft on her since shes so tall.

I have been trying to say this wrt Deepika for ages now.
I do not get her obsession with updos when it comes to Indian wear .. always. And no, she won’t to a soft bun or romantic updo.. she has to have that big bouffant hair and severe updo.
It takes out the grace from her look .. she has an athletic body (fabulous, yes , but athletic) ..
Add to that the severe eyebrows .. and then the hair.. the whole charm, softness is gone.. it looks too harsh! She is able to pull it off just because she herself is so gorgeous !
Also, I don’t understand why people need to put down Sonam’s look to justify that DPad looks are better. Sonam’s looks are always better executed and that is why there is praise for her .. you will always see Sonam changing her hair, makeup as per the outfit / occassion. Deepika – rarely! Same red lipstick, same hair style .. she looks great neck up and neck down but somehow the sum of the parts is not better than the individual parts themselves … it is not a well put-together look .. and hence feels like overkill!

Yes.. it is a slow work day .. I have too much time :)

  15. She doesn’t look good in this dress. The color is not right and the hair is too severe. I think it’s time for her to ditch this hairdo. She has overplayed it now. Even if i try to convince myself to believe she is looking good, i fail at it just like she failed at making this look work.

  16. Agree with most of the comments, nothing overkill about it. It may not be fashion forward, but I don’t think Deepika has tried hard to be a fashionista. She just looks good, that’s all.

  18. I won’t call it an overkill…..its an indian wedding reception after all.Having said that….I do feel there is no newness in the look……its a boring pink sari with gold embroidery + boring jewellery.
