In All About You

A day after we saw Ms. Kapoor promote her yet to be released clothing line by wearing it while travelling, we saw Ms. Padukone delve into some promotion herself by wearing a one-shouldered maxi dress from her capsule, All About You, with denims and smoking slippers.

At first I wondered, why she’s wearing denim underneath until I saw the waist-high slit on the side on hers. Having said that though, can’t say am a fan of the top. She makes it work, but am not sure, us mortals would be able to pull off that ruched elastic band.

  1. Did you have to compare it to Sonam’s wearing of her label? Deepika has worn her labels many a times before. She looks stunning and I love that the dress is so affordable. There are many mere mortals who have a body similar to hers and dp sport them, you don’t need to speak for all and write it off.

      • She wore it during Bajirao Mastani First song launch event and recently peach dress too.So please do research before posting.

            • I went to the brand’s IG and still don’t see them credit it. Neither did Shaleena.

              I would like the celebrities who tie up with brands for capsule collections to wear more of it. Be it Deepika, the Kapoors, Kangana, Kriti and whoever else. You’ll see most of them wear around launch time and just maybe a few days after, and then it is forgotten. It tells me, the common person, that you don’t believe in wearing it more, why should I?

          • Actually, she wore an off-shoulder dress for a TV interview which was posted on both the brand’s IG page and by Shaleena. Also, since you have looked at the brand’s IG page; you will see women of different shapes rocking this identical dress. I don’t enjoy the implication that you need to be tall and model thin to rock certain outfits. The comparison to Sonam Kapoor was just in poor taste as well.

            • Wearing the dress on that occasion doesn’t count because it was a sitdown promoting the online retailer that is selling the collection. I (me personally) would like to see all these celebrities wear more while out and about.

              Noted about the implication part. Agree with you there.

        • Payal, I agree with you about not wanting to wear clothes that these stars lend their names to, but do not believe in wearing the clothes themselves. The inclusion of these pics and mention in this blog only helps them promote these clothes for free. If you are not paid to promote them and you have problem about their opportunist ways, then you have a right to not include it here. Yes, you are aware of it and it is a tough decision on weather to include these cases in your blog. But power to you about speaking you mind in this case.

      • Why is there so much angst and anger on these pages? This is about fashion. A light subject. And even if it wasn’t, doesn’t mean we stop being decent and polite. I like what she is wearing and I also liked what Sonam wore. And I am not a fan of either. P&P kudos to you for never losing your cool.

      • +1. I sport dresses with a ruched elastic band and I certainly don’t have a figure like DP. I actually find the style very flattering on me. Also, P&P, I am curious; do you think most readers would carry off a long t-shirt dress paired with a jacket with exaggerated sleeves and military style booties vs. this basic top? If we only liked what looked good on us, I wouldn’t like most things on this blog.

        I have been hesitant to feed into other readers comments on a bias against Ms. Padukone but it’s unfortunately alive and kicking on this blog. Deepika is not having a great sartorial run but credit where it’s due, she looks absolutely great here.

  2. I have a lean body n carry such outfits quite wel. Not just me, have many friends who are quite tall n lean. They too will look fab in such tops. On a side note, I always wonder do celebrities actually sit n design these outfits or just lend their names for branding. There is a clothing line by Hritik, Alia n Shraddha too, available online at Myntra, Jabong etc.

  3. I agree with P and P. Many of us regular folks would not be able to carry off such an unforgiving outfit. But Deepika can carry it off well.

  4. I read this blog religiously because I love Indian fashion and fashion in general but have little idea who any of these celebrities are on these pages for the most part as I have never lived in India, nor do I watch any Indian tv shows/ movies/ read the country’s newspapers. I read the comments on this blog with interest, hoping to learn and reflect on fabrics, styling, draping, fashion houses etc. A couple of observations over the past few years about some people who comment on this blog:
    1. Comments about women’s bodies, whether too fat (vidya, for example) or too thin (pernia) presumably from other women are unhelpful and a sad reflection of the world’s obsession with women’a physical appearance (worst of all, judgements from other women) yet the men on these pages are typically spared from such commentary;
    2. Some commenters appear fiercely pro- or against certain celebrities, which is irrelevant when analyzing their fashion choices;
    3. Comments about skin colour are frequent and irrelevant to fashion in general (I mean comments about skin whitening or foundation being too white, or comments that certain women (of course, men are spared) are dusky and should or shouldn’t wear certain colours.. these types of comments);
    4. And Mean spirited comments are unfortunately filtering through, which amongst other things, detracts from the professional, fashion-knowledgable, and slick presentation of this blog.

  5. Ugh, always the same salty, defensive comments on this particular celeb’s posts…I wish people would understand that the blog is about fashion, NOT an excuse-making exercise for fangirls. I’m sorry you have to go through this, P&P…

    • Agree wholeheartedly. People taking offence because something they think is not complimentary is written about their favourite star.

    • To reduce a voice of dissent to “fangirling” is such a reductionist argument. I certainly am no fan of Deepika’s sartorial taste/choices.

      • +1. A voice of dissent and expressing a different opinion doesn’t equal fangirling. On this blog, dissent is equivalent to fangirling and providing positive feedback is equivalent to being someone’s PR.

  6. I give this and up-thumb and I love deepika, I love this easy breezy top and yes I am more of a apple pear shape but i would wear it and flaunt it because of the slit on the side and I would wear a pants underneath. Last time I checked I was one of the mortals lol Unfair with the comparison though…
