Reception Style
At their Mumbai reception, Deepika and Ranveer opted for a white and gold theme with the bride wearing an Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla lehenga and the groom, a Rohit Bal sherwani.
Her jewellery was from the Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla for Saboo collection.

She looks radiant. But the outfit has way too much fabric. Its drowning her.
Bingo! This outfit almost looks like something that a nun or middle eastern women would wear. The veil was completely unnecessary. Makeup is off. And the PR tirade continues as the couple becomes the first ever to use their wedding for shameless self-promotion and designers piggy-backing to advertise to target demographics .. three weeks .. so tired of them.
she should have lost the veil and covered her forehead with some hair. not a fan of the forehead and hairline exposure
* PR charade, I meant.
You claim to be tired of them yet here you are commenting under their post. Your take on their clothes is fine since this is a fashion blog but what’s with the janani-type comment about self promotion etc.
So classic and timeless. The contrast of red chooda with the cream and gold is eye catching.
And here I was thinking uhh, not another Sabyasachi please even though it didn’t look like his clothes. Then I thought, not bad, I quite like these clothes of his!
Why that veil? It looks like a bedsheet ghat needs to be pulled off! Someone help DP!
I absolutely love the saree but I dont think the dupatta was necarrily. It almost looks a bit costumey? But I’m so so disappointed in her hair and make up? Why does it look like that? i miss her big voluminous hair. Ranveer looks so dapper!
Its not dupatta but its Chadar, I think the bride and groom have tried to stick with traditional Sindhi wedding attire in Pakistan before partition.
I think her hair is ironed to her head PERMANENTLY at this point.
Hahahaha! This literally made me ROFL! I agree with you completely. A more relaxed hair do without the veil and a small red bindi would’ve catapulted this look and how!
Her chipku hair has its own thread on some Forums!
Best look from the wedding.. seriously Ranveer is royalty.. Deepika looks so lite in that heavily ornate lehenga.. both look exquisite. Things when u change the designer =p
Deepika face looks incomplete. A decorative small bindi would have worked wonders
Felt ditto!
yup… I agree… it’s like she looks great
.. BUT….
I totally agree! that’s the first thing I noticed too.
Look like the 4th couple right out of the sets of that movie hum saath saath hai. Just need a sky high bun with the dupatta covering it
I love them. HOWEVER, the hair and the damn dupatta on her head is making DP look so tired. And she must be, considering everything has been so hectic the past few weeks. It’s such a disservice to this beautiful woman. Ranveer on the other hand – killing it! Sabya, pleaseeeee. Just stop now!
This screams royalty! I know there might be comments on her hairstyle but it completely works here in my opinion. They both look absolutely stunning. I didn’t think I would ever say this but Abu Jani seem to have designed a better outfit for Deepika than Sabya. There is glamor and elegance in this look.
Gorgeous
Ranveer looks fab! I like this look better than Blore one on Deepika. But god it looks so heavy and ornate. Personally for me it’s a bit ott but atleast it’s classic done right (relatively speaking!). Not sure why she has worn the ghungat type, as in not sure if it’s a style statement or some sentimental reasons?! If it’s a style statement I wish she had gotten rid of it!
Yuck
A classic gold and ivory combination lends grace to an otherwise forgettable jora. The oversized necklace and the duappata border didn’t work for me. Still a welcome relief from Sabyasachi monopoly and mediocrity.
Ranveer could have used a less ornate sherwani but carries it well nonetheless.
They both look lovely. But I am tired now and there is one more reception to go. Phew… hats off to the couple.
The whole thing is so so so ornate it is borderline gaudy. This is coming from a huuge Deepika fan. Didn’t like it at all. I absolutely loved her in all her wedding looks to date but this seems very gimmicky. For the first time, it looks they r showcasing their filmy status forgetting that it is a personal event. A bindi to tie it all together would have been nice.
Is something wrong with her hair? Why isn’t she showing it at all? Even I, a common person had a hep hairstyle and reception look.
A possible explanation is that she is trying to be a Mughal princess.
They are sticking to regal/traditional looks…n the same old hair on DP is so underwhelming… wish ranveers Sherwani had Churidhar pantsninstead of these flared ones…
There is no doubt Deepika is a lovely lady and can carry off outfits with Class….however, I honestly feel she needs to move out of the Rani Padmavati hangover and start looking and dressing up like Deepika ! Pretty much all All her wedding looks/styling feel inspired by her reel image and so similar and ‘overloaded’
Don’t you guys have better pictures, they are so many pic out there shows the saree and the jewellery so beautifully. You need to invest on better pics. Both are looking gorgeous.
Exactly. P n P, please get better quality pix.
that high heel confidential stamp is so irritating, i get u pay for your pictures but there are subtle ways to stamp a picture, speak to your web designer please
Thats too much clothes. It was a reception I believe and not the wedding.
After the Sabya overdose, this is a welcome change. I saw better pix on another website, the couple is glowing, happy and the clothes and jewellery resplendent.
I am tired by just looking at the number of parties and reception looks. How are they not ? It must be physically exhausting.
Both look too costumey.. I will pass.
then don’t look!
No. Just no! Deepika’s look would be a lot better without the dupatta over the head! Very gimmicky as it stands.
Exactly . My first thought seeing DP was how gimmicky can this get.
There is a video of hers in the reception without the headpiece and she looks so much better.
this look feels so costumey like her stylist’s inspiration was from Padmavati. sorry but Deepika looks really bad with flat hair and earrings are bigger than her face with all of the jewelry makes her face looks out of proportion but Ranveer, as usual, is looking great.
This look I like on Deepika much better than the Bangalore reception, of course minus the dupatta covering her head. White and gold is a classy combination. Good choice to move away from Sabyasachi. But seriously 1 more reception to go? Seems so so tiring & such colossal waste of money, not that I think they don’t have truckloads of it but just saying.
Think of all the designers, caterers, florists, jewelers they are keeping in business. :-D
They must be only the already super rich ones.. wouldn’t be hiring someone who would earn their living per event for sure! Your comment made me happy but I just realised.. =/
It’s not a term generally used immediately after a wedding unless the wedding venue was an Elvis chapel in Vegas but she needs to annul her arrangement with Sabya pronto. This template he’s been recycling is exhausting. She looks lovely regardless but I’d have loved to see her in something less severe.
why doesnt she look like a normal indian bride at her reception? It’s all too much material. The make up is AWFUL and looks so blah
The make up looks like a beachy glowy babe wearing a maang bhari sindoor
Also from other photos I thought this is a lehenga with tbe dupatta worn like a saree?
Is this the wedding that never stops? I wish to see DP with her hair open and some clothes that don’t make her look like rani Padmavati.Ranveer on the other hand ,killing it with all his looks!
Why o why! Why that hairstyle again!! such pretty face but all I can see is forehead as big as an airplane landing strip! :O
Her beauty radiates through.. even in simple looks such as in Piku..no need to go all costumy :(
There is nothing fresh in any of Deepika’s looks, all copied from scenes of her SLB movies. Nothing to say a wedding , which should reflect personal and original taste ,and style , oozes bridal charm, but she is just looking like run of mill bride from sabya n other bolly desinger catalogues.
Hate to admit but all pomp and no show.
now this all is making me like Sonam wedding attire a lot with all the variety uniqueness and experiment in looks same goes for Anushka and few other actress who got married in recent years.
Deepika’s looks are more dramtic but no charm and personalization.
And to everyone’s surprise Ranveer is looking dapper .He has put his best show forward for all the wedding ceremonies.Loved his this look.
Deepika will look beautiful in anything, but here’s hoping for the last event she will pick something light and fuss-free. She has beautiful hair, glowing skin, perfect bod. Why always choose to look like a clothes hanger for excess leftover cloth?
I’m wishing for a gown n a tux from the man n woman.. we’ve had so much traditional wear in 2 weeks it feels like I just witnessed the most exquisite catalogue wedding shoot with all functions… ever
If you ask for gown, she will wear a shiny gown with puffy balloon sleeves and plunging neckline until waist and tries hard to look sexy.
How are they still standing after sooo many receptions and parties, I am exhausted just looking at the pics. The attire is way too much. I definitely prefer Ranveer but think that even he is drowning in that extra fabric. And my head is hurting just looking at how ornate and heavy Deepika’s dupatta is! Like how is she managing to stand with that much weight on her head. It looks wayyyy tooo much. Lose the dupatta, loosen up your hair and she will look great. I know its their day(s) and they can dress up any which way they want to, but I feel like telling them to lighten up.
Even these tall people seem to be drowning in the fabric. All that matchiness was sweet at first but now too much like Korean Couple Look.
Only one more event of faux royal costumes left now. Perversely fascinating to see what fame and money results in.
DP’s look is ghastly in my opinion. If this is a reflection of her personal taste, then I’m sorry she has none. Very disappointed that she chose not to go all-out Konkani in any of her wedding looks (and no, her Konkani ceremony look wasn’t Konkani at all). Her face looks oily and the earrings are beyond OTT. And such a dull choice of colours.
Uggh! She is boring me with the colours and designers. It’s so gaudy, OTT, cluttered and uncomfortable looking. She basically has no taste, just trying the Rani Padmavati look. And what’s that oily hair and oily, greasy face? Ugh!
I love these two, but this look is just silly. The dupatta on her head and Ranveer’s white shoes just push this into costumey territory
This is one wedding that never seems to get over
SO GAUDY. SO COSTUME-Y
sigh.
Nothing about this looks is memorable. In fact if one has to quickly recall their outfits, it all gets blurred into one giant white and gold and more gold blurr.
This lehenga looks like a saree. Hence the head sheet looks odd. I tired to Ranveer over dressing everytime.
The hair is looking so tight that it’s hurts the eye. A looser bun and little bit wispy look ….. maybe she is recreating either her Padmavati or Mastani looks but even those sketches did not have this severe hair.
Her make is also not keeping up with the grand outfit hence her face looks washed out.
But then… when I saw the that R D florals…. yup that is what it is. Research and Development…….. or individual style in Thai case.
I know I’m going to get a lot of flak for this, but veeery similar to sonams mehndi look. Also tired of the OTT styling and same old makeup/hair, such a disservice to a beautiful woman. Ranveer looks miles better and so much more comfortable than DP in all of their outfits so far.
While I agree with you, it’s time people stopped saying hair/makeup artists/designers are doing a disservice to the beautiful DP. She is doing a disservice to herself by not using her brain and having a say in how she’s styled, unless like some commenters above said, this is her personal style, in which case she has none. It’s just weird that people constantly blame her stylists when she’s a fully grown adult who can clearly have a say in what she wears at her own wedding.
Outfits at this reception are the worst by far. So over the top and so much fabric. I’m actually tired for them with all the receptions and apparently there is one more reception this weekend for them bollywood folks!
So much for the simple wedding with close family/friends.
Both of them look gorgeous. But yes, a bindi on Deepika would have looked better.
Her make up is off .. again :(
Its good in itself but total mismatch with the outfit. If you just see her face, you’d think she’s at the beach or something.
Even in her wedding photos the makeup was more like a nightclub outting with super heavy smoky eyes.
There are pictures of her without the veil and she looks really good . The veil overwhelm the whole look. Ranveer as always looking dapper. This man can carry anything.
The next is a black tie reception for bollywood so expecting a tux and a gown from them.
Where does her jewellery end and the material starts? *sigh* I wish Deepika wore what Ranveer is wearing, would have been a surprising change
At this point, it all looks so costumey and staged. They seem to want to embody their SLB characters in real life too. I wish they went a bit more simple with their reception looks – the incessant need to look ‘royal’ is tedious at this point.
All her looks in Italy were really good. The outfits there were well curated and didn’t seem OTT. All the looks in India have been extremely gimmicky. And when the mister gets more positive reviews than the missus (especially in their case), that doesn’t make for great PR.
With the wedding celebrations stretched over a period of one month, this feels like a reality show now.
I maybe in minority but I didn’t like any of her Italy looks either. They were so generic, hidden under truck loads of heavy jewellery etc., But after her reception looks I think I am beginning to appreciate them a bit more. In recent times I have only seen bridal wear like hers in magazine covers or runways
You’re not in the minority, A. Many didn’t like any of her wedding looks, including the Italy one.
one could barely see what she was wearing. What are you even talking about?
Love Deepika… but this look is soooooooo boringggggggg…. why I am getting this feeling that sabhya using them as their models or they getting paid for it … I don’t know… this look is so targeted to the middle east shoppers…
Slowly Slowly I am feeling every look of theirs from day 1 of their wedding as high end catalogue of Sabhyasachi…
*Disappointed Fan
Such good looking happy couple things could have been way better
They are not even wearing Sabya here and was not styled by him either. Her Konkani wedding saei and Bangalore reception sari are not Sabya. Ranveer’s Bangalore reception look, the DJ party look and the outfit here is not Sabya either.
Shimmer and other people can you please explain – this is not even Sabyasachi so what on earth are you guys going on about?
Lol totally agree with the middle eastern shoppers though
I am seriously thinking now that she doesn’t have beautiful flowy hair….I have only seen her in loose buns and super tight buns…I think she might be the only actress who looked worse during her wedding and related events, than any other time .
What happened? It started off so well.
very costumey! i wish they treated it like their wedding reception where they did not have to put up a show for the media and all of the world. it looks like they are trying SOOOO hard to be different and cool that they are losing their personal charm. esp under yards and yards of fabric, jewellery, make up and plastered hair. what a change it would be to do something simple, airy and fresh… sigh, Deepika… had so many hopes set on you… your smile still radiates and Ranveer is smitten by you…i guess thats all that matters.
I have always suspected this woman does not have any deep sense of personal style. After looking at all her wedding pics, I am convinced she has zero personal style…nothing has a charm to it, everything is over stylized and over dramatic…thats saying a lot given that our weddings are over dramatic.
The outfit is beautiful but just not showcased well with the styling.
Unfortunately I suspect your conclusion may be right. She does seem to not have that innate personal sense of style that showcases your individuality. Even Katrina has one, granted that is boring and dull but you know that she is not interested in fashion and trends and that’s her style. Deepika on the other hand seems to completely depend on stylists and designers blindly. Sometimes it works for her and some times it doesn’t. It’s unfortunate! It seems she is going down the Aishwarya route!
I think she has great personal style (informal). When she outsources her styling to major designers like Sabya and Abu.. they make it more of creating a brand statement than use practical sensibilities and dress her for the occasion, her personality and body. It is a major fail on the designers who dress her up.The Lake Como outfits were done to perfection! Sabya had class written all over it. The Blr reception was off by a simplistic ordinary saree and the ornate jewellery of Sabya… a mismatch in other words. Saree was non-negotiable as it was a gift from mom. but jewellery needed to match that and if it had then she would have looked like any ordinary bride…so in comes Sabya with the heaviest of jewellery. As far as the Mumbai reception… no comments. OTT and ostentious. In all of this… I think Deepika has to take some blame… you dont just hand over yourself to a designer and have them dress you on YOUR wedding. You have some input on what you like and what you want to look like. I think her fault is in trusting these big guns to know what they are doing… sigh. at least that’s my take and i am sticking with it.
Just awful, she looks like she’s wearing a glammed out habit.
Eww…… so ugly and gaudy looking everything
I love that she decided to wear more sarees for her wedding than other outfits and I love she did the Dupatta on her head coz it makes her stand out as a bride and not look like a guest which a lot of actresses look like in their wedding. So kudos for not wearing a gown coz these memories will remain forever and she wanted to go all out! However my grouse is with the hair , so severely flat for all occasions , she’s lucky she looked good despite the hair styles . She looked great in all her events !
My ears hurt just looking at her ear rings. Ouch! You can see her earlobes literally being dragging down by those things. And she wore the same kind to most of her events. He looks great on the other hand.
How did HHC go from discussing fashion to gossiping about how long a celeb’s wedding functions are?
This whole show looks exactly like the Ambani ceremonies we used to diss. Who are these people & what’s going on in their head!
This will probably sound inappropriate on a fashion blog but how wasteful does this wedding seem? A marriage is supposed to symbolize love and commitment between two people and this endless decking up like Christmas trees appears very vain and superficial to me. I keep going back to Soha and Kunal’s wedding, looked cozy and simple enough. Vidya Balan’s was also simple and a family affair and I don’t think it was because they did’nt have the money. I am aware that Deepika and Ranveer are the Brangelina of Bollywood but this is going too far. I do not want to see any more of these gaudy and OTT pictures. I was so looking forward to this wedding and somehow thought they would be much more classy than this. The first few looks I was totally on-board and admired them no end but now it is just stale and unwanted. Fashion should not mean trashing the planet. You don’t need to have a reception in every state of India to proclaim that you are married. You are NOT royalty so please get over yourselves!!!!!
I so agree. It seems like all of this is for publicity, as both the Padukones and Bhavnanis seem simple enough (or they may have gaudy taste, I don’t know)…makes one wonder why all this over-the-top-ness for people that are in a position where they can make the most impact in terms of doing good for society. Also I get that it’s their wedding, a huge event in their life, but then again the question arises – just how long should a wedding be? A 2-day lavish wedding, great, but all this…is just so tacky and wasteful. I know fans etc. won’t like it but this so needed to be said.
I think the Bangalore one is for her extended family , parent’s friends and relatives and the Bombay one is for his side of the extended family and friends and relatives. The wedding just had their immediate close group of people who they had to take with to Italy with them. I guess they didn’t want to do the reception in just Bangalore or Bombay as that would be impractical for every country cousin that has to make an appearance at the Indian wedding hence the two receptions. But of course They could have just invited the Bollywood folks to the Bombay reception I guess but they chose to keep it separate. The problem I think is with media shoving it down our throats. Overdose of it while the families are probably just doing what they think would work best for them and their circle of friends/loved ones.
And I am not a friend or a relative and far from being a fan of either. I speak because I can relate. my husband and I are from different cities and we live in a different country, so we did have small gatherings in three places so most loved ones could attend. This is probably just that but since they are uber rich, everything is on much larger scale.
I may be in minority but this is BAD, HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT..the clothes are wearing her ..she hardly looks like the typical Indian bride…so bland…this is not a photo shoot..be yourself Depika …she looked best on her wedding day …as for Ranveer he was better dressed throughout…held his own..
what is that bedsheet on her head???
Agreed, it is her wedding..her party and she has the right to dress how she wants. But, firstly, this doesn’t look like what she wants to wear – but her stylist wants her to wear. And secondly, with that thing on her head it is ventures into costume-y territory.
This has the potential to look amazing – lose that giant garish fabric on her head; change her hair into a loose, wispy bun ; dewy fresh makeup instead of the oily face and a red bindi.
How can these designers /stylists make a woman as gorgeous as Deepika look bad?
Where is the DP with the big voluminous hair??
Ranveer has been knocking it out of the ballpark consistently!
From the pics to the outfits.. its all too planned, costumey and dramatic.. By just being how these two are, was hoping for so much more fun, easy breezy and effortless styling and overall vibe of the wedding..
Hoping things change on 1st Dec and we get our power couple who slay back soon…
Just bizarre! I thought they were cool people but now I’m not so sure.
Main takeaway really. Bewildering choices. And posters above are right the choices don’t speak well of the super rich of the country. Age of excess I am thinking.
This. Who on earth matches their clothes exactly with their spouse’s, non-ironically? I physically recoiled when I saw this. And those giant-ass earrings and that terrible, terrible hair. This looks like the caricature of an Indian/Bollywood wedding by someone who doesn’t know anything about India or Indian culture and only got the brief to make everything OTT.
Honestly, weddings and wedding rituals and wedding outfits are supposed to make you reaffirm your commitment to each other and to your cultures. I don’t know any ancient culture that would survive (ie people would actually get married to each other and continue their traditions) if their wedding outfits were so ugly.
I guess I am in the minority , I love all the clothes from their wedding including this one and I am eagerly waiting to see the pictures of what they are going to wear in their next event. This is like the Shaadi to remember and they look so much in love and smitten with each other and carry their clothes with elan! I saw some videos of the above function , they and their families seem to really enjoy the function and meet the guests with so much warmth and grace !
Any way, fashion is an opinion and clearly they have created very strong positive and negative emotions . I believe Fashion is only a fail when it is boring and no one cares / are indifferent .
The bridal round clearly goes to Sonam. Sorry Deepika, you over reached.
I didn’t know it was the battle of the brides
Now you know LOL
It looks theatrical. However, they make it work.
I can assure you that if a regular couple would have worn this, there would have been enough jokes about using the same cloth piece to stitch 2 dresses.
My favourite look of Deepika is her wearing that Orange-bronze sari that her mum had gifted her :)
@SR which one? Wedding or reception saree?
The one she wore for her Konkani wedding.
Looks like she wore every yarn of silk in her closet, and every pearl bead, diamond nugget, and every gram of gold jewelry her Rs.500 crore Bajirao pay check bought. We GET IT! You are ultra wealthy Deepika!! (clapping)
A great gesture would have been to promise to send 10 or 100 or 1000 girls to college instead of spending it all on themselves.
So gaudy and cringy for a the 8th reception after the OTT wedding. No wonder so many are so resentful of Bollywood and the likes of Ambanis.
