Reception Style

At their Mumbai reception, Deepika and Ranveer opted for a white and gold theme with the bride wearing an Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla lehenga and the groom, a Rohit Bal sherwani.

Her jewellery was from the Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla for Saboo collection.

    • Bingo! This outfit almost looks like something that a nun or middle eastern women would wear. The veil was completely unnecessary. Makeup is off. And the PR tirade continues as the couple becomes the first ever to use their wedding for shameless self-promotion and designers piggy-backing to advertise to target demographics .. three weeks .. so tired of them.

    • Its not dupatta but its Chadar, I think the bride and groom have tried to stick with traditional Sindhi wedding attire in Pakistan before partition.

  4. I love them. HOWEVER, the hair and the damn dupatta on her head is making DP look so tired. And she must be, considering everything has been so hectic the past few weeks. It’s such a disservice to this beautiful woman. Ranveer on the other hand – killing it! Sabya, pleaseeeee. Just stop now!

  5. This screams royalty! I know there might be comments on her hairstyle but it completely works here in my opinion. They both look absolutely stunning. I didn’t think I would ever say this but Abu Jani seem to have designed a better outfit for Deepika than Sabya. There is glamor and elegance in this look.

  6. Ranveer looks fab! I like this look better than Blore one on Deepika. But god it looks so heavy and ornate. Personally for me it’s a bit ott but atleast it’s classic done right (relatively speaking!). Not sure why she has worn the ghungat type, as in not sure if it’s a style statement or some sentimental reasons?! If it’s a style statement I wish she had gotten rid of it!

  7. A classic gold and ivory combination lends grace to an otherwise forgettable jora. The oversized necklace and the duappata border didn’t work for me. Still a welcome relief from Sabyasachi monopoly and mediocrity.

Ranveer could have used a less ornate sherwani but carries it well nonetheless.

  8. The whole thing is so so so ornate it is borderline gaudy. This is coming from a huuge Deepika fan. Didn’t like it at all. I absolutely loved her in all her wedding looks to date but this seems very gimmicky. For the first time, it looks they r showcasing their filmy status forgetting that it is a personal event. A bindi to tie it all together would have been nice.
Is something wrong with her hair? Why isn’t she showing it at all? Even I, a common person had a hep hairstyle and reception look.
A possible explanation is that she is trying to be a Mughal princess.

There is no doubt Deepika is a lovely lady and can carry off outfits with Class….however, I honestly feel she needs to move out of the Rani Padmavati hangover and start looking and dressing up like Deepika ! Pretty much all All her wedding looks/styling feel inspired by her reel image and so similar and ‘overloaded’

  15. This look I like on Deepika much better than the Bangalore reception, of course minus the dupatta covering her head. White and gold is a classy combination. Good choice to move away from Sabyasachi. But seriously 1 more reception to go? Seems so so tiring & such colossal waste of money, not that I think they don’t have truckloads of it but just saying.

This template he’s been recycling is exhausting. She looks lovely regardless but I’d have loved to see her in something less severe.

Hate to admit but all pomp and no show.
now this all is making me like Sonam wedding attire a lot with all the variety uniqueness and experiment in looks same goes for Anushka and few other actress who got married in recent years.
Deepika’s looks are more dramtic but no charm and personalization.
And to everyone’s surprise Ranveer is looking dapper .He has put his best show forward for all the wedding ceremonies.Loved his this look.

  20. How are they still standing after sooo many receptions and parties, I am exhausted just looking at the pics. The attire is way too much. I definitely prefer Ranveer but think that even he is drowning in that extra fabric. And my head is hurting just looking at how ornate and heavy Deepika’s dupatta is! Like how is she managing to stand with that much weight on her head. It looks wayyyy tooo much. Lose the dupatta, loosen up your hair and she will look great. I know its their day(s) and they can dress up any which way they want to, but I feel like telling them to lighten up.

Very disappointed that she chose not to go all-out Konkani in any of her wedding looks (and no, her Konkani ceremony look wasn’t Konkani at all). Her face looks oily and the earrings are beyond OTT. And such a dull choice of colours.

  24. Nothing about this looks is memorable. In fact if one has to quickly recall their outfits, it all gets blurred into one giant white and gold and more gold blurr.
This lehenga looks like a saree. Hence the head sheet looks odd. I tired to Ranveer over dressing everytime.
The hair is looking so tight that it’s hurts the eye. A looser bun and little bit wispy look ….. maybe she is recreating either her Padmavati or Mastani looks but even those sketches did not have this severe hair.
Her make is also not keeping up with the grand outfit hence her face looks washed out.

But then… when I saw the that R D florals…. yup that is what it is. Research and Development…….. or individual style in Thai case.

    • While I agree with you, it’s time people stopped saying hair/makeup artists/designers are doing a disservice to the beautiful DP. She is doing a disservice to herself by not using her brain and having a say in how she’s styled, unless like some commenters above said, this is her personal style, in which case she has none. It’s just weird that people constantly blame her stylists when she’s a fully grown adult who can clearly have a say in what she wears at her own wedding.

After looking at all her wedding pics, I am convinced she has zero personal style…nothing has a charm to it, everything is over stylized and over dramatic…thats saying a lot given that our weddings are over dramatic.
The outfit is beautiful but just not showcased well with the styling.

    • Unfortunately I suspect your conclusion may be right. She does seem to not have that innate personal sense of style that showcases your individuality. Even Katrina has one, granted that is boring and dull but you know that she is not interested in fashion and trends and that’s her style. Deepika on the other hand seems to completely depend on stylists and designers blindly. Sometimes it works for her and some times it doesn’t. It’s unfortunate! It seems she is going down the Aishwarya route!

    • I think she has great personal style (informal). When she outsources her styling to major designers like Sabya and Abu.. they make it more of creating a brand statement than use practical sensibilities and dress her for the occasion, her personality and body. It is a major fail on the designers who dress her up.The Lake Como outfits were done to perfection! Sabya had class written all over it. The Blr reception was off by a simplistic ordinary saree and the ornate jewellery of Sabya… a mismatch in other words. Saree was non-negotiable as it was a gift from mom. but jewellery needed to match that and if it had then she would have looked like any ordinary bride…so in comes Sabya with the heaviest of jewellery. As far as the Mumbai reception… no comments. OTT and ostentious. In all of this… I think Deepika has to take some blame… you dont just hand over yourself to a designer and have them dress you on YOUR wedding. You have some input on what you like and what you want to look like. I think her fault is in trusting these big guns to know what they are doing… sigh. at least that’s my take and i am sticking with it.

I love that she decided to wear more sarees for her wedding than other outfits and I love she did the Dupatta on her head coz it makes her stand out as a bride and not look like a guest which a lot of actresses look like in their wedding. So kudos for not wearing a gown coz these memories will remain forever and she wanted to go all out! However my grouse is with the hair , so severely flat for all occasions , she’s lucky she looked good despite the hair styles . She looked great in all her events !

  38. This will probably sound inappropriate on a fashion blog but how wasteful does this wedding seem? A marriage is supposed to symbolize love and commitment between two people and this endless decking up like Christmas trees appears very vain and superficial to me. I keep going back to Soha and Kunal’s wedding, looked cozy and simple enough. Vidya Balan’s was also simple and a family affair and I don’t think it was because they did’nt have the money. I am aware that Deepika and Ranveer are the Brangelina of Bollywood but this is going too far. I do not want to see any more of these gaudy and OTT pictures. I was so looking forward to this wedding and somehow thought they would be much more classy than this. The first few looks I was totally on-board and admired them no end but now it is just stale and unwanted. Fashion should not mean trashing the planet. You don’t need to have a reception in every state of India to proclaim that you are married. You are NOT royalty so please get over yourselves!!!!!

It seems like all of this is for publicity, as both the Padukones and Bhavnanis seem simple enough (or they may have gaudy taste, I don’t know)…makes one wonder why all this over-the-top-ness for people that are in a position where they can make the most impact in terms of doing good for society. Also I get that it’s their wedding, a huge event in their life, but then again the question arises – just how long should a wedding be? A 2-day lavish wedding, great, but all this…is just so tacky and wasteful. I know fans etc. won’t like it but this so needed to be said.

    • I think the Bangalore one is for her extended family , parent’s friends and relatives and the Bombay one is for his side of the extended family and friends and relatives. The wedding just had their immediate close group of people who they had to take with to Italy with them. I guess they didn’t want to do the reception in just Bangalore or Bombay as that would be impractical for every country cousin that has to make an appearance at the Indian wedding hence the two receptions. But of course They could have just invited the Bollywood folks to the Bombay reception I guess but they chose to keep it separate. The problem I think is with media shoving it down our throats. Overdose of it while the families are probably just doing what they think would work best for them and their circle of friends/loved ones.

And I am not a friend or a relative and far from being a fan of either. I speak because I can relate. my husband and I are from different cities and we live in a different country, so we did have small gatherings in three places so most loved ones could attend. This is probably just that but since they are uber rich, everything is on much larger scale.

Agreed, it is her wedding..her party and she has the right to dress how she wants. But, firstly, this doesn’t look like what she wants to wear – but her stylist wants her to wear. And secondly, with that thing on her head it is ventures into costume-y territory.
This has the potential to look amazing – lose that giant garish fabric on her head; change her hair into a loose, wispy bun ; dewy fresh makeup instead of the oily face and a red bindi.

How can these designers /stylists make a woman as gorgeous as Deepika look bad?
Where is the DP with the big voluminous hair??
Ranveer has been knocking it out of the ballpark consistently!

This looks like the caricature of an Indian/Bollywood wedding by someone who doesn’t know anything about India or Indian culture and only got the brief to make everything OTT.

Honestly, weddings and wedding rituals and wedding outfits are supposed to make you reaffirm your commitment to each other and to your cultures. I don’t know any ancient culture that would survive (ie people would actually get married to each other and continue their traditions) if their wedding outfits were so ugly.
