In Anavila

Wearing an Anavila sari, Ashwiny attended the Beauty Awards held last evening. Bindi in place, the filmmaker finished out her look with silver jewelry. Like what you see?

  1. The sari is extremely dull. I don’t get this Anavila hype. Not all pieces in the collection are striking most of them are suitable only for a low key day event; a Gaurang or a kanjeevaram can be “earthy” and sophisticated at the same time.

  2. Almost all of my grandma’s pictures have her in the same pose and wearing the same kind of blouse and sarees. These pics brought an unexpected smile early in the morning :)

  3. I’m sorry, but i’m not on board with this wrinkled handloom saree, oversized cotton blouse, silver jewelry look at an awards event. It’s fun to see this at a bookstore event or a press conference maybe. Somehow it makes Ms. Iyer look unkempt and dull.

  4. I’m really fed up of all the anavilas floating around. Frankly if its linen one is looking for, there are far better weaves available even in places like Fabindia. Why pay megabucks for something so… old-looking.

    • +1. Although I don’t think Anavila is as popular as it seems…maybe it’s just featured here more due to PnP’s personal preference?

  5. Shabbily draped lungi pattern cotton sari with a boat neck loose top does not equal to being earthy. lolol. There are so much better ways to keep it real & cool. Here she looks pretty bad.

  6. As with most other fast-emerging labels today, Anavila has now reached a stage where it can live off its reputation. And to hell with the originality that carried its name this far!

  7. You must be good friends with her Priyanka. Otherwise you would not feature her here in this blog so frequently. She is a behind the camera person and hardly a fashion inspiration.

  8. I agree with most comments, this looks more like a grandma’s saree.
No actually I take that back, my grandma wears much nicer chungdis and venkatagiris that have nail the earthiness quotient, yet have a sense of joy and color.
This saree and blouse have neither, a complete blah.

  9. The blouse is completely wrong.. a well stiched blouse in brighter shade would have rescued this look. I do enjoy her simplicity though but looking forward to her wearing colors such as yellow, lime and bright, bright pink.

  10. In a sari fabric is everything. Many saris these days have cheap dyes and mixed yarns. But this is never clear in a photograph so all handlooms seem the same. However I haven’t handled an Anavila saree so can’t comment on the texture and fabric. The sari looks fine but the blouse felt off. Ms Iyer could have gone for a contrast but matching blouse in white and purple if she was aiming for retro.
