At The Film Festival

On closing night, these three lovely ladies skipped heavy-duty formal gear and opted instead for ease. Have a favorite?

Can’t say we were particularly enthused about Mira’s shoes, Aparna’s khaki pants-kurta combo or Aroon’s ill-fitting gold churidaars… But were we to choose regardless, it’d have to be Aroon, Mira and Aparna in that order.

  1. Although I like Aroon’s kurta; I think Aparna looks well put together and at ease (and so skinny!). I’m always inspired when women dress their age (as opposed to the budhi ghodi laal lagaam brigade).

  2. All three of them look great and totally at ease. Thats what matters. Mira’s shoes could have been avoided, but doesnt matter.

  3. Anybody criticizing the fashion sense of these women has to be idiotic. They are intelligent, successful and well-respected filmmakers, and people who went to the program, went there to listen to them speak, not to ogle at them or remark on their clothing choices. They clearly dress for comfort, and nitpicking about their outfits makes PnP seem juvenile and silly.

Not every woman needs to look absolutely perfect, and I’m sure these women have more on their minds than making sure every detail of their outfits will please the self-proclaimed fashionistas. I would understand pointing out an outfit on these ladies, if it was spectacularly ridiculous, downright dowdy or plain vulgar, but making critical comments about the color combo on a woman like Aparna Sen? Grow up PnP.

    • If you thought this blog was about us commenting on an appearance based on a subject’s accomplishments, you are in the wrong place or haven’t read the blog enough. Be it Shabana Azmi, Anu Dewan, Nandita Das, President Patil, Mrs. Obama, Sonam Kapoor, Manjari Fadnis, Aishwarya Rai or even Aparna Sen… We stick their clothes and clothes only.

Sure the yardstick changes depending on a person’s age, style, occasion etc but never based on their careers, personal lives and accomplishments. If that were true, then it’d have to be valid for all and that’d be opening a can of worms. And tabloid territory is something we’d rather not stray into.

Sure some are more accomplished than others but since that’s not what the forum is for, their celebrity and cause of it is best saved for another place and another time.

    • oh come on, CM, don’t you think you’re taking this a bit seriously? everyone featured here gets rapped/praised SOLELY on the basis of what they wear. going by your argument, Aishwarya should be out of bounds because she is the most beautiful woman in the world, Shabana because she’s an acclaimed actress, X because she’s a successful singer, Y because she’s a businesswoman. being “intelligent, successful and well-respected” doesn’t win them a different yardstick when it comes to dress-sense.

  4. this blog is for fun and entertainment. we’re not here to solve world peace, etc. i come here to have a short break from the pressures of work and daily grind.
