Seeing Double

The similarity is hard to miss! Not something we’d expect out of Ms. Mahtani’s stables…

  2. ditto, except for a different shade in the same color…talk about laziness…she couldn’t even think to do it in a different color!!
do plagiarising designers realize that at some point IP is going to extend to clothing designs and then they have extended lawsuits and large settlements to look forward to?
nandita mahtani always comes off as holier than thou, a cut above the rest, nose stuck in the stratosphere…shouldn’t her work match her attitude??

  3. I think you guys should have a separate write-up on copy cats in the Indian fashion industry.
Gauri and Nanika Karan also regularly copy western designs, but none of our stars seem to realise it. Femina magazine actually named the duo the fashion designers to look out for in one of its recent issues.

  4. guys perhaps it is a copy, but it will be sold because of the price diffrence,it is beautiful dress nonethe less, but designers like myself and some seniors have patented their designs and we have tradenarks, at the moment i am in the process of a law suit in terms of copyrightbut this can be controlled if most of the international brands were in india the they could have the liscenses confiscated, but the new breed of designers r not liscensed, what a pity ,a no go battle

  5. Its so similar that I am tending to believe that its actually the Original Piece, bought and showcased as own!

Because you cannot see the efforts even to make it look little bit different.

  7. These designers are actually bringing bad name to Indians, in general. Don’t they feel any shame at all while tagging their name on somebody else’s creation?
Hats off to this site for bringing out such things. Keep up the good work.

(I love the dress, by the way.)

  8. a lot of these designers such as nandita are rich socialites. they don’t need to have a career but take up designing as something to talk about at dinner parties and to make themselves more popular.

  9. do the copycat designers ever get sued by the original designers? if not, maybe a couple of lawsuits will prevent them from doing such blatant copies..i know our directors copy western movies from watching dvd’s but this is just really sad to see how it translates into the fashion industry…

  10. This is ridiculous…these so-called ‘designers’ don’t even make an effort to change any detail. They copy fearlessly, bringing a bad name to the entire Indian fashion fraternity. I hope she gets sued big…that’ll get her off her high horse!

  11. Woah!!! Miss…self proclaimed queen of originality is a copycat!!! In your face, Nandita!! Lol…..stupid really…..seems as if she bought the dress in a different color and put it up as her own just coz Rebekah Taylor is not very famous in India. Well….its the internet age….everyone knows everyone. So be careful the next time you plagiarize.

  12. It is frustrating for people like me who belong to the industry and see “socialite” turned “bored women” turned “Designers” churning out carbon copies of other designers. They do not have the skill, technical finesse or a developed aesthetic sense.. they probably just buy the dubai edition of harpers bazaar and point out to their design assistants, dresses they want copied.. they should be guillotined.

  13. It’s terrible. I can see it is easy to be “inspired” and can’t be helped soemtimes if there are similarities even by accident, but a total copy like this? Too bad. Stealing and showcasing in full-view. Wow, what guts. Hopefully, she is not taking the credits for it.

  14. Is it possible Nandita’s store carries the brand and she was showcasing a dress from her store, not necessarily designed by her? Just a thought.
