After attending the ‘Chandni Chowk To China”s London premiere in a regular suit, Amitabh went the ethnic route at the Salon Du Cinema event held in Paris.
It is probably just me but somehow I can’t bring myself to like all that velvet! It brings back memories of a certain actress who loves to wear velvet with chappals! (See here.)
The traditionalist that I am, me thinks he should have worn some white silk churidaars with this outfit to give it some definition. The sherwani and the loose salwars don’t go very well together.

I like the fact that he went traditional but yes, he could have done without the overdose of velvet!

He looks great in both outfits. I don’t see why he has to follow the churidar with sherwani. Being fashionable is about trying differnt things rather than following what others are wearing. Mr. Bachan can carry both looks well.
The way he’s wearing his Sherwani with a loose Salwar is a very Pakistani style… I think. My friend’s dad wore a sherwani w/salwar at her wedding (and a lot of other men too). While at Indian weddings, I’ve seen men wear Sherwani with Chudidaars. Both styles look good, imo. But Amitabh’s velvet is oooooogly!
Madonna was recently seen sporting frames like that, too. I’m glad he went tradtional, but salwar + shervani = one of my biggest pet peeves. Like you, I’m am traditionalist too and I think sportin’ that is not experimenting w/ fashion… it’s just a good ol’ faux pas.
I think he looks more gangsta than ethnic.
maybe traditional shoes would hv salvaged this look somewhat – those shoes are great but are so not going with the outfit
When it comes to Indian attire no one can beat Javed Akhtar. He is always very well-dressed in silk kurtas and churidars.
Can we please have a worldwide ban on using velvet for clothing?

Someone please put this man under house arrest and gag him! I’m so tired of seeing him in his technicolour dreamcoats all over the place, and hear him mouth off about everything under the sun…
He needs to stop wearing velvet.
I wish some people on this site would get educated. He did not make snarky comments about Slumdog as falsely reported.
BW fans are immature. Western actors work forever with no one complaining – look at Clint Eastwood who is way older.

Some of us ”follow’ Amitabh Bachchan through the media only so pardon us if we are sick and tired of his ‘attention-grabbing’ write-ups on his blog and then issuing further statements to clarify his previous comments EVERY SINGLE TIME. He needs to express himself clearly or just shut up! And who’s complaining if he does QUALITY work? Clint Eastwood does not wear ghastly outfits and prance around like a 35 year old and he certainly does not behave as the last authority on the film industry he works in or his country. Clint Eastwood is dignified so there is really no comaprison with Amitabh Bachchan here!
OK, NJ: he’s not “desperately trying to cling on to every last vestige of fame”, he’s a FAMOUS, talented Bollywood Actor who is known the world over. I was in Egypt in November and not only was the average Egyptian familiar with Bollywood (which was a surprise in itself), ALL of the Egyptians I spoke to knew and *admired* Amitabh Bachchan. ALL of them. (Being the lone Indians in our tour group, my friend and I were singled out constantly). My point: he’s not trying to be an ambassador for India, he IS an ambassador of Indian cinema. If it weren’t for the four decades of hard work which he has devoted to the industry, Bollywood cinema would not be seen at the caliber that it is now by Indians and non-Indians alike.
Furthermore, you don’t read his blog and yet you rely on Indian Media for your information…and you’re complaining that he’s the one who doesn’t express himself clearly? Given the chance to increase exposure/sales revenue, the Indian media would add masala to kheer if it had the chance. If you’re going to insult someone and communicate such passionate feelings about them at least use a credible source. What you’re doing is taking someone else’s misinformed opinions and using them to create misinformed opinions of your own.
Do us all a favor, if it’s about his style or fashion choice comment away, but keep personal attacks regarding character to yourself.
