Sari Style

Mother of the to-be-groom, Amala kept it rather on the simple side at Akhil’s engagement ceremony. But, am not complaining. As always, Amala looked elegant and I like that she picked a cotton sari instead of a heavy silk.

P.S. Am not sure but I think she is wearing Gaurang.

  1. I believe she doesn’t wear silk (silk worm/animal/pets). I could be wrong but don’t remember seeing her in silk in awhile. She prefers cotton and ethnic prints.

She looks nice here. Just right for an engagement function. And yes always nice to see her featured here.

  3. She comes across as a woman who knows who she is. A confident, quiet beauty.

Beautiful saree. Bet it costs just as much as some or more thank some silk sarees.

  6. I was in school when I saw the first and only Amala movie. All we knew then was a Telgu actress. I remember every single outfit she wore. She had sleek elegance, amazing body language, and outfits with great silhouettes. Most of the dresses would be relevant today too!

  7. Amala is epitome of beauty, style, grace, elegance and class. A rare beauty. She wears only organic cottons in all types of traditional weaves and kalamkari. And she wears only ahimsa silk sarees. Not just handloom sarees, she is also famous for being stylish in western wear in movies and off screen. Truly class apart from the rest.

  8. She does not wear silk because she is a Vegan and an animal rights activist. She has a beautiful heart which makes her prettier!

I love her for the kind of person she is. Read any of her interviews, she is so humble and beautifully conveys her thoughts. I love her so much that I even posted a comment here after ages! <3<3<3

  9. Had no clue who she was until I read the comments! But the moment I saw her pics, it caught my attention. What a grace n class. Not just few actresses but women in general should take some lessons from her, specially the Mothers (they are much older than Amala) of the grooms who themselve turnup as a brides!
P.S.- Amala doesn’t look like Mother of the groom. To young to be mum-in-law. :)

    • Dear Moni,

I told you to check about Amala a few days ago and here she is. I told you you will love her style instantly, I am glad you did. See we have same taste.

Amala is my favorite actress out of all Hollywood, Bollywood and South movie industry combined. She is my Beauty Icon and Style Icon in both Indian and Western wear. She is my role model too for the kind and compassionate person she is and all the social work she does. She is an animal welfare activist, environmental activist and does a lot of other social services.

If you haven’t seen Amala till now you have missed something so beautiful. Her every appearance and every look in movies and outside is a beautiful piece of art. Check it out, you will love it. First thing is watch Shiva movie in Telugu. It’s a terrific movie and Amala looks hella stylish and classy. There is Hindi version too watch both but Telugu original one is a must see. Do it today. In fact she looks ethereal in all her movies and gorgeously dressed.

Yes Amala looks very young at every stage because she practices yoga, vipasana meditation daily and she doesn’t eat meat, dairy and desserts. She follows healthy life style and she is an intelligent, kind and humble person. Too many good qualities associated with her.

        • That is why I wrote “Amala Akkineni” not to get confused with Amala Paul. Yes I adore, love and respect Amala ever since my childhood. She is very dignified. I feel she is the classiest and most graceful actress ever all over the world. There is so much depth to her personality, dressing and lifestyle. Not just an actress and humanitarian, she is also a well trained Bharatnatyam dancer from Kalakshetra for 12 years. I love fine arts, classical dance forms, classical music, handlooms, Indian weaves, yoga, vipassana, kindness to animals, conservation and protection of environment and nature. So I get instantly drawn to her. Yes she is loaded with all the noble qualities. She recently acted in Humari Adhuri Kahani movie as Imran Hashmi’s mother and Vidya Balan’s mum in law. She looks very young as same their age. Amala is just 45+ and her son is getting married at young age 22, plus she always looks young for her age. Just like Amala, her husband Nagarjun also looks young, fit and smart for his age and dress neat and classy like her. Both make a lovely pair in movies and as real life couple. :D

  11. She clearly looks like she’s dressed for herself foremost, and then the event in question. In case of almost everyone else featured on the site, it feels like the reverse. They seem to dress for the crowds attending.

  12. She doesn’t wear silk sarees, not surprising she picked a cotton saree. Still made it festive with a bright colour. She looks charming.

  13. whatt!!! this is one ugly ass saree. great that she doesn’t wear silks but there has got to be something cotton that beats this monstrosity of a saree and blouse !!!

    • I think you don’t know the meaning of ugly. They are such beautiful colors with muted, delicate embroidery which isn’t flashy. And the wearer made it all look pleasant. She dresses for herself, not to impress others. And this is her son’s engagement, so she has the right to wear whatever she likes on this special occasion. This is not some film promotion to please others.

      • no..i’ve seen plenty ugly and this is right up there. she could wear a sack for all i care, but if she’s featured on a fashion blog and i see people/ PR agents raving about this look. i sure as heck am gonna puke all over it.

      • I kind of agree with Cersei. The saree is ugly. Amala looks nice despite the saree, because of her inherent grace and charm. Also she has draped it well. The saree in itself looks cheap and unremarkable. She could have gone with any number of traditional handloom cotton sarees or even nice block printed ones.

  14. I am the lone dissenter here. It’s not the cotton material, but the colors/embroidery/hair+makeup that lack pizzazz. A larger bindi, kajal or a little lip color, maybe? Amala is beautiful, nevertheless.

  15. Oh come on ppl . Just because a person a wears a non silk saree etc become a beautiful soul etc .. If she is not akkineni I doubt she would be doing what she is doing..

    • Celebrity or not, we should appreciate anyone who tries to make this world a better and peaceful place. Never criticize such people. Amala had done that all her life. Ever since she was a child, she rescued, cared, treated and loved animals and nature. Even if she was not an actress and not an Akkineni, she would be doing that. That is what her interest is, not fashion.

  16. are you for real? the idea that one shouldn’t criticise people is ridiculous and somewhat self righteous. her attire is posted on a fashion blog. i’m a meat eater, fur wearer who appreciates that she cares about silkworms and the gamut. yet the complete disaster of a saree that she’s wearing compels me to engage here.
