Pretty In Pink?

Aishwarya wore a pink sari with floral and gold embroidered detail to the Rashtrapati Bhawan where she and Akshay Kumar received their Padma Shri Award. While, I do like the color on her, I think the gold details is too flashy for such an event. Nevertheless, I still think she looks great. Its a color that suits her a lot!

What say you?

  2. The gold is a bit OTT, and you can see that the blouse is also gold and glittery through the sari – that and the fact that the blouse looks like it might be a bikini-style blouse sort of ruins the look. She herself looks good…looking a little chubby and that suits her a lot. But I am most pleased to see that she has gone back to her original black hair. The ferocity with which she used to dye it brown/mahogany and keep it that way (only dying black for roles like Chokher Bali or Jodha Akbar) was baffling. Black hair looks beautiful and if you are essaying Indian characters most of the time what is the point in covering your black hair in brown dye and then dying it black for a role??

  3. Nope, she looked so much better at the Filmfare awards. This is too blingy. Looks like a cheapo saree, especially the rose border. Make-up is too much as well. But she looks really happy, and why not.. so good for her.

  4. The colour is beautiful on her, but I think she would have looked better and more suited to the event if she stuck to a more traditional sari, I think a banarsi sari would have looked great.

  5. It is not the nrightest of choice of saree to wear for a Day event……
Probably the saree would have been more appropriate at a cocktail party or so………

  6. Agree with deepika, a kanjeevaram or a benarasi would’ve been so much more elegant and timeless to a formal, important event like this – these pictures are going to be kept in government archives for DECADES now.

And not only is the sari too blingy and cheap-looking, the scalloped edges really really kill it. And please, WTF are those stripes of gold lame on the borders and what are they supposed to be doing there?

  7. Is this Manish Malhotra creation ? Looks like that to me.

I agree with the others about a more traditional approach…this is too blingy for me. The color looks good on her though.

  8. the colour suits her, don’t like the saree, and toooo much make-up as usual.

I don’t think a bra-like blouse is right for such an event.
looked better at the filmfare awards.

  9. Oh no…I am a die hard Ash fan . But I hate what she is wearing for the function. She could have done so much better. This saree is good but is worn at the wrong time in the wrong place. She should have worn something more understated and classy…. I would have loved if she had worn a nice simple saree and worn some fabulous jewellery with it .

  10. Congrats to her! This is a reminiscent of her why oh why days, maybe Neeta Lulla designed it. I actually like some of Neeta’s saris she had worn few years ago with less bling. She’s wearing nailpolish which is very rare.

  11. Yikes, this sari is terrible, very chamak chalo type..and what’s with the overly made up face?! wish she had stuck with something classic and gone easy on the makeup.

  12. I was really looking forward to seeing these photos, when i read that she had worn a pink sair i naturally assumed it would be a light pink, so i’m surprised by the loud colour choice. I agree with some of the comments above, the sari isn’t the best option for such an event – considering it was a daytime event (correct me if i’m wrong).
She still looks fantastic but if the sari was a light pink she would have looked even better…. if i was to guess – i’d say neeta lulla creation – this one.

  13. Yes, the blouse is gold too, ewww…. luckily her hair is covering it. Jaya Bachchan looks cute in her simple tant cotton saree, with the Bengali drape.

  14. I dont like the sari at all. Its kind of a overload for such an event. Hate the border with all that gold. And I think that color is just, too bright? It’d be alright if she’d worn it at night, outside event but here it looks too ‘chamak challo’ …..

  15. She def. looks beautiful, but I agree tht the sari is a lil too blingy for such a solemn occassion.. or mayb she decided ” to embrace her filmi background” as reigning queen and First bahu of Bollywood!!! Pls post pics of Akki, he looks so dapper! and d too of them seem to share good vibes.. miss their chemistry in Khakhi!

  16. The floral detail and the gold appear OTT and tacky. There are so many other classier options. That being said, Ash looks gorgeous. I love her one tone dark hair colour. It totally brings out her features and makes her look so sophisticated. Her multi-tonal highlighted hair never looks as good IMO.

  17. I do wish she’d gone with a traditional sari, maybe kanjeeevaram, benarasi, or even a Dhakai saree, which young Indian celebrities other than Nandita Das and Vidya Balan rarely seem to do. That being said, she does look gorgeous.

  18. Firstly, Congratulations Ash and Akshay!!
i wud wear this to a wedding.. not to a day time award function.. the color def suits her.. but too blingy.. and akshay with those glasses.. why wud he wear that?????

  19. Aishwarya is beautiful, that’s a given. Her choice in clothes, not all the time great. The sari is over-bling, especially the gold with the flowering detail. Looks tacky and outdated. Her sari at Filmfare was a lot better, along with her total look.

  20. am a diehard ash fan – and will say she looks good, but maybe for a formal event like this she could have worn a cream n gold silk sari with understated gold jewellery – i’ve seen pics of her with just such a sari with abhi before mrrg, anyway the pink suits her, and congrats for the padma shri! also sad to see that ash is finally showing signs of age on her face…

  21. O.T.T, she looks pretty no doubt, but this would be more appropriate for a wedding or something..i would pick a nice khadi saree (which might be another extreme all together) or atleast a plain traditional saree..with pearls as opposed to kundan jewelry..

  22. While the saree is okay…i don’t think it is event appropriate for such an event. Wearing a spagetti blouse I feel to government event is inappropriate…would you wear a spagetti tank top to a meeting at the UN?

  23. Wow…you guys sound like a bunch of broken records..

I think the sari is stunning, the color looks good on her and I like the gold detailing. What’s so over the top about it? It’s not like the sequin detailing is all over the sari. Also, I like how she paired it with the earrings and nothing else.

  24. OMG, this is just awful…. why does she always do this to herself?! Yuck! The color is way too loud for a daytime event to a goverment award function… does she think it’s the filmfare awards? And the work on the sari is absolutely garish…

Twinkle on the other hand looked lovely at the event…though I only was able to find one picture, she was in a simple, chikan (I think) white salwar… very refined and appropriate for such an event…. P&P, can you try and unearth a good pic of twinkle at this event?

  25. The color is beautiful and the embroidery is exquisite however, I agree it’s too blingy for this event. She is Aishwarya’s for chrissake and does not need a blingy OTT saaree to stand out in the crowd!! When is she going to learn? Perhaps without the “broad” blingy border, this saree would’ve looked better.

  26. the saree is totally behenji and the color with the bling is bad…i like aishwarya generally in anything she wears as she is so good looking but this time is bad bad bad. Akshay kumar looks delicious…yummy!!!!!!!

  27. but akshay…..goggles even inside the rashtrapati bhawan….isnt that against decorum? and arent u trying too hard to be the superstar….what if ppl think u have conjunctivities……u shud chill more

  28. i think she looks good, this color suits her really well. but not a fan of the super-shiny blouse that shines through her saree :/
and the make up seems too much, she looks so gorgeous with minimal make-up, she doesn’t need so much.

prem rogue> i also hate when she dyes her hair but i saw several times her ads for l’oreal where she was endorsing hair-dye so it could be because of that..

  29. I just saw what Twinkle Khanna wore for this event (a pale cream lucknow-embroidered salwar kameez) and I have to say that Twinkle gets my vote on the dressing stakes. I must agree with the above posters, Aish’s sari is wayyyy too chhamak chhallo for a government event. She looks like she’s attending the Filmfare awards rather than receiving a prestigious civilian honour from the government. It’s not just the sari but the sleeveless gold blouse too – tacky. Much as I love her, I never deny that she has absolutely ZERO dressing sense.

  30. ekkkk..the sari is so yuk..the rastrpatis sari look so prety in frn of it..i mean she cud have chose something subtle..i m not an aish fan..but in the 3 pics she looks so cute n preety wid the chubbyness..

Akshay looks absolutely stunning in his suit! He reminds me of George Clooney everytime.

  32. Oh, Jaya Bachchan at the same event is looking AWE.f.SOME. Really, really simple and regal.

And I’m not even a mild fan of that woman…but she’s looking very well put-together.

  33. Lovely color, but quite inappropriate sari for sucn an important function!
Also, I would luv it if CocoNUT would stop judging others for their comments ( i dont mean to open an
argument, but have been noticing this for a while now)

  34. frm the first pic, u can see how light her makeup is for her skin…..sad, being a beauty queen that she is/was, cant even pick the right color of makeup.

    sari looks really old fashioned

  35. cant say anything that hasnt already been said
    totally inappropriate
maybe ok for an awards function or wedding – but honestly not even a fan of the sari
its such a pretty colour though

kanjeevaram with minimal makeup (she looks like she has so much blush on!) would have been awesome
the best she has looked according to me was in the red silk sari in tirupati after her wedding
would have loved something like that

  36. yeah as spongy said the rashtrapati’s saree makes the difference so stark
and I am with ksmommy abt madhuri
yeah Megha , I still remember those tirupati photos, so beautiful

  37. Horrible as always.

Why does Ash do this? The ugly super-blingy OTT sari combined with about 10 layers of white foundation which is way too light for her real skin tone makes for one disaster.

SHe really needs to relax with the make-up. It’s making her look older than she is.

  38. I dunno why people didn’t like it..I mean the sari is a tad blingy but she wears it so gracefully! Pink looks great on her and I love how she accessorized it with earrings only. She looks elegant:)

  40. I have already commented on Aishwarya’s look. She looks radiant in the final 2 pics. Btw long sleeve blouses I don’t know.. might be ‘presidential’ but why does it look like as if the President is wearing a shirt and not even a blouse with her sari?

  41. sari is OTT and tv serialish. make up is almost geisha like. when will this girl learn? she needs to befriend twinkle quickly.

  43. she looks so beautiful…I can barely even see the saree (but honestly, it’s not TOO bad, Ash has the perfect body for sarees though…)
and how cute do she and Akki look, lol
    like school children
    I like her hair too!

  45. i really wish she had gone with something a little more toned down – maybe something more traditional (not necessarily a kanjeevaram, but maybe something more along the lines of silk and zari than chiffon and beading). and def. a better colour combo. but at least she chose a saree.

ash is such a natural beauty – she looks the most stunning when she is wearing less or no makeup and not OTT with her clothes.

megha – i was thinking of that exact saree at tirupati when i read this post – she looked like a million bucks and way better than when she was trying so hard at the actual wedding!

  46. I love the way she looks here. It’s blingy but certainly not OTT.
Ok most of the makeup is a little heavy duty, but would someone PLEASE tell me what blush she’s wearing? It looks SO good! Is it NARS orgasm?

  47. Is Akshay wearing sunglasses INSIDE the rashtrapati bhavan?!
As for Ash, well, she is loud and inappropriately dressed. Bikini style blingy blouse at the Padmashree awards?

  48. its baddd!!! didn’t like the sari…the golden details are flashy makes her look like a christmas tree.. and the make up looks caked…jaya looks sober and dressed for the event!! men are fine….wish Ash had chosen a kanjeevaram sari or a more sober color to go with the occasion… instead of this number….IMO

  49. Oh..my eyes.. my eyes!!!
The color hurts them.Seriously, when will Ash learn… Over a decade in modelling and movies and international exposure, and yet she comes up with this to a Govt. function, which would be like a once in a lifetime moment for her!! Too sad!! Just saw Twinkle’s snaps from the same event .. and she looks GORGEOUS… guess her sense of style is inherent from her mother… simple, elegant, classic and understated !!

  50. What’s with the pancake-overdrive?? I am just wondering why no one has commented on her “over made up” face. With make up like that, the sari would be the last thing I worry about.

  51. When I saw this picture on the front page of the paper yesterday morning I thought, “Good lord. What is this el-cheapo creation and why couldn’t she have just worn a kanjeevaram or a benarasi???” I agree with the comments of many of my colleagues on HHC–tacky makeup, tacky saree, she should have exercised some restraint. I do like the colour on her and the earrings are lovely. Lucky to be sitting next to Akshay Kumar–sigh!

  52. saree is real tacky and too much of gold on it. not suited for such a formal ocassion. looks like she is there to attend some baraat. her all so pink make up is a clear sign that Pink Panther hang over is not over for her.

  53. did you notice? akshay is wearing dark glasses inside the hall!

and they actually pin the medallion to aishwarya’s sari. it must be so awkward to be pinning it to her boobies!
