Sari Style
It was a kanjeevaram sari for Aishwarya Rai who attended the 57th National Film Awards in Delhi where hubby Abhishek and father-in-law Amitabh were honored. We don’t have to state the obvious. Yay! for going for a traditional woven one.
P.S. Apologize for the late posting, we’ve been hunting for full-length pics.

Love it! The saree’s a great color, and she’s glowing.
She looks gorgeous. This is close to perfection.
she looks absolutely gorgeous the color is beautiful.
she carries with class.
Love the kanjeevaram & the earrings. The colors compliments her skin tone and natural eye color. So classy and elegant.
Agreed. Yay for the Kanjeevaram and the lovely colours :)
this is a billion miles ahead of her recent spottings, but do wish she was wearing a bindi.
ditto!
she is wearing a bindi.
@Jasmine…it seems like she is wearing a bindi…a really tiny one…the camera catches the sparkle if you look closely at pics 2 and 3 :) I think it’s a little yellow bindi…and yes, she looks great! :)
yes, i half-recognised that could be a bindi — but wish it was something large and round and purple ;) or even a small dot in purple :)
She looks amazing, she looks so classy, I love the colours
Lovely………& I love the colour combination . Tradituional yet modern
aah..she looks lovely..wonder why do they choose MM saris again and again, when they have options like these available..
Right I wonder that as well!!! She looks amazing!!!! Lust for the color combo!!!
Yay..I have similar saree..more or less the same color combination
this took my breath away ! So lovely ! Yay for chosing the traditional saree with the traditional zig zag pattern and traditional colours. Gorgeous totally !
2 “rooms” for improvement – different colour for hair and bindi.
Agree. Such a classical Indian beauty. Would love to see her in her natural hair color.
She ‘s looking lost in the second picture
but only she can look so endearing while being so lost :)
ditto@mary. :)
She has the innocent look down to a T!!!Love it
She learned frm her mistake, wat she wore at Padmasree award function was too fili…and heavy makeup…
i love the earings.. they`r juss beautiful, she looks lovely..
the saree itself is not pretty but she carried it so well and she is looking so simple and pretty.
Finally! Love it…..
not liking the green blouse… wish she had worn a golden/yellow blouse..
why such a small insignificant bindi…
fantastic- without the silly wig and ill fitted clothes
indian women look best in clothes
this indeed is beauty!!
Are you serious? The hair colour is such a clashing mess against the sari… it has to go!! pleasee! It even takes away from her beautiful face…
She looks absolutely stunning! Love the saree aswell..such a beautiful colour combo
Beautiful Kanjeevaram, love the colours. I know a lot of people with this type of saree, I have a variation of it myself.
After the purple tent, this is a breath of fresh air. She looks oh-so-beautiful.
Both her and the saree are stunning! love the minimal jewellery, wish she’d do something about that hair…starting to look shabby, Mrs. Rai-B!
Beautiful, wish we could see the full lenth- looks like the green is on pallu
LOVE this saree and Aish looks so gorgeous in it. I never thought that the combination of green and purple would work, but it so does! She looks so elegant and charming!
elegance is an attitude :)
I went WOW!!!
You hardly see anyone in these elegant traditional sarees these days. Its just so perfect, hair jewelry makeup everything. LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!
love it! so classy and elegant!
Hey P&P is it possible to get a full length pic of her, I want to see her sari…its beautiful!!
excellent saree. my only gripe is that the blouse pattern is a bit too busy against the border draped across her chest. but SUCH a small point – arb always looks stunning when she chooses traditional weaves – when she tries too hard to look trendy and modern is where she always goes wrong.
I just wore the same saree to my brother’s wedding a few days ago!! Couldn’t believe it when I spotted it on HHC on my most recent visit. I loved the color and simple yet beautiful work.
If u don’t mind- where did u buy the sari from :-)
As someone else mentioned below Nalli is a great place for kanji sarees but if you don’t live down south you can try handloom exhibitions or stores they sure have it.
Don’t mind at all. We got in Kancheevaram, on a visit to buy sarees for the wedding. The selection and variety in Kancheevaram is pretty vast compared to some of the stores I visited in Chennai.
Where can I buy those earrings? please tell me!!! thank you!
i got mine from Nalli, the grand old store for traditional sarees….wonder where hers is from, DEFINTELY not an MM creation. love the earrings too!
stunning! just wish she wore a simple necklace too
Love love it! :) I have such a soft spot for traditional silks… so amazing!
love it every south indian has this exact saree….mine is in a deep bottle green with maroon border and blouse
I loved the fact she went with Traditional Indian sari and not her usual filmy MM. However I feel she had way too much makeup on > I saw jaya & shweta’s pics next to her and they looked so elegant, graceful & Natural.
I would love to see ash look more natural. No doubt she looks pretty here but I feel with less makeup she will look even better and real.
Thank you Ash for not wearing another Manish Malhotra sari. this sari looks great!
I have a purple saree with green border. Looks stunning as here. its a lightweight Poona saree and pretty cheap. Sometimes it all about the colors we choose not necessarily what type.
Aishwarya looks lovely in the barney colors
Love the saree. the colours, the bindi , the bindi colour and the temple border of the saree. Kanjeevaram rocks!! She looks like a typical south Indian here and of course looks lovely!!!
this just reinstates my theory:when it comes to sarees there is nothing that can match up to our traditional fare…sabyasachi being the only designer who is an exception…n maybe the odd anamika khanna…but otherwise no one really…
ash really looks divine…the only grouse is the hair colour…
love it, I am soooooo glad the Bolly girls …are going away from the chamak dhamak…heavy garish embroidery, and OTT sarees to more simple classics….kudos to her and Rani and Vidya.. way to go girls….Urmila, and Kat are you listening…
This is pretty common design for a Kanchi, definitely not something unique, exclusive or designer about this saree. Neverthless it is striking, bold and makes a huge statement! I love the fact that she can go from designer clothes and sarees to something that a common person can find and wear! Kudos for wearing a gorgeous kanchi saree and bringing exposure to these traditional looms! She has made a traditional saree modern with the minimal jewellery and simple styling and make up! Kudos, Aish! you and your saree rock!
thank god she is wearing a traditional kanjeevaram sari…instead of those strapless onesshe has been wearing to the national functions!
this looks perfect on her! she looks a total southie in this one :)
whats an MM SARI ?
she is so much better in still photographs…was making horrid expressions on koffee with karan!
