In Michael Cinco

Aishwarya’s first red carpet appearance at Cannes 2018 saw her in a Michael Cinco gown featuring a dramatic and rather exquisite train.

Part of me wishes she’d sported a softer do than that wet sleek one and I know some may feel like she should’ve opted for a different lip color than the red that we always see her in, but I think she still looked breathtaking. But, a lot of that credit goes to that stunning gown as well.

  3. This is my problem. 82 actresses, directors, writers just assembled on the red carpet in a protest led by Cate Blanchett, calling for greater equality for women in film. No Aishwarya, no Kangana, no Deepika. Only Indian visible: Nandita Das (and apparently, Rasika Duggal). Doesn’t this bother us? There are some people there for the clothes, and there are some people there for the movies and the real reasons FILM FESTIVALS are held. Things like HHC, while about fashion, could do just a LITTLE more to add some depth to what fashion can mean… but perhaps not. Perhaps life is about the color of one’s make up and the parting of one’s hair.

    • I don’t think any of the L’Oréal or other shillers are interested one tiny bit in the cause of the movie business or equal pay etc. I don’t think they even sit through the movies being screened.
It’s a shame really because they have a platform, yet they use it solely for vanity (nothing wrong with vanity but it’s foolish to have a global platform and not use it effectively for important issues).

      • Agree 100%. And I, like Cate Blanchett, don’t think beauty precludes intelligence. You can care about looking good and be smart and care about films too. But do you see our stars doing that? How many have tried to make a statement about sustainable fashion, a la Cate Blanchett at Cannes? Instead they descend at Cannes every year like it’s a fancy dress contest.

        • To be fair They are there for different jobs. Blanchette et al are there as members of jury and can speak their mind. These ladies are there as brand ambassadors.

When you go on work trips, you do represent someone else and can’t really go protest even if it close to your heart.

        • but… but few Indian actors go there as actors, right? they’re there for brand endorsement, be it Aishwarya or Kangana — and catch brands like L’Oreal or Grey Goose allowing their faces to be associated with anything remotely controversial.
if we’re hanging out here for the clothes, it is because Cannes IS a giant fashion parade — at least for most of those whom we recognize.

        • Guys calm down!
These ladies are contractually bound towards Loreal and they are there to do their duties and finish their shoots and interviews for the brand.
They cant just leave all that and join a protest. They are not in cannes for that.

  4. Its a difficult dress to pull off…its so bold but she did well. I think the dress is so big that a nude lipcolour or even a pink one would have been a washout. I like the red as its equally dramatic. They did well to keep the eyes relatively light.
My only gripe is the harsh hair. A wavy do or an updo or a lovely blow wave wouldnt have aged her the way it has.
But overall… what a grand dramatic start!

  5. Wow Aish looks stunning . That is a gorgeous gown . And no she didn’t need a softer updo ….. with so much going on with the gown it would’ve distracted . The sleek hair makes her look younger too .

  6. Why can’t our girls do something sleek yet powerful on the RC? Always going for these overtly dramatic and elaborate gowns and ALL the make up caked up on their faces. It’s either that or some costume-y nonsense a la Kangana. SMH

  7. She looks absolutely like a goddess! Stunning. She slated the RC! I have actually no words to describe her! The ones who are complaining can’t even buy a single thread of that dress! Losers.

    • The ones who are praising also can’t buy a single thread of that dress (and that’s worse because they actually like it) – your point?

Don’t have anything to add in terms of her look since all the other commenters have covered all my thoughts, but just wanted to (after restraining myself for a very long time) point out how it is so ridiculous that certain fangirls feel the need to attack everyone that doesn’t like their favourite star’s look. It says more about you and your favourite than the “complainers” you’re abusing. So put your view out there by all means, and let others as well. Peace.

      • Agree Kaya. If one cannot accept opposing views then one should not even be here on these pages. Everyone has been given equal opportunity by HHC no matter who you are and where you are from to share their views and that to on matters that are relevant to fashion. So lets keep politics , agitation, propaganda out from this forum. There are other appropriate forums where one can raise issues about femininity, equal pay, equal rights, greater good of women etc. These actresses are representatives of the brand in Cannes whilst they would like to raise and advocate on issues that affect them in the Industry, this may not be the opportune time for them to do so. Lets not be too dismissive about them.
Back to the subject, Aish looks great. I would have preferred a softer makeup against the bright myriad of colors of the gown.

  8. All hail the queen!! Just look at photographers in the background. They are totally focusing on her. Some may argue they are capturing the long trail of the gown but this kind of attention from paparazzi is not there when some other Indian woman walk the red carpet no matter how dramatic the outfit is. For the gown, the trail extending from hip portion looks bit odd. Wish it originated either from shoulders or was the conventional extension of the hem.

  10. That Gown is Gorgeous yes, but it’s every bit Aishwarya’s aura that uplifts the over all look. The gown is drama and no could have served it better than someone who in her own right is easily defined as Red Carpet Royalty! It is not an easy dress to pull off, you need to have a personality stronger that thousands of Swarovski Crystals together to hold your ground and drown in the fabric.
    A 10/10. Aishwarya won 2018 Cannes again.

  11. She is unreal! My God, how can someone be so flawless?? That skin and such scalpel-like sharp features. That gown indeed is exquisite and the vibrant colours together make her skin look extra porcelain and infact lend that healthier than usual glow. Minor grip is that straps on shoulder slightly give off a swimsuit like feel but that is very much ignorable ofcourse.

More than anything else I am loving the poise she is exuding! I have always seen Aish going an unnecessary extra step in terms of her posing on the Cannes red carpet. I love her restrained usual self. She looks so calm and content with self here somehow and I feel relaxed looking at her. Kudos for making it all look like a piece of cake! (Which it isn’t in anyway).

  12. That makeup is a disaster though. The gown, although beautiful, fails to sparkle on the RC. Also, the trail looks odd.. it looks like a last minute addition. The original cape style would have looked better.

  13. Gosh she looks ethereal here! Theat gown is dreamlike, the hair looks perfect and she is oozing cconfidence. However, I do wish the lipstick was a berry shade, would have complemented the look better. That red lipstick needs to go away now. I love red lips but not everyone is Scarlett Johansson or Taylor Swift to effortlessly carry them with everything!

  15. i am in minority here – on paper, everything is 10/10 but she does not look happy. This is the first year in all her Cannes’ appearances, that she does not look happy, she looked unhappy in her earlier appearance in Manish Arora as well – especially compared to Kangna and Deepika who were brimming with energy which Aish usually does too. And this is the first time in all these years that she looks old. She is not smiling from within, either she is tired or unwell or something is bothering her. The gown is stunning but the tail looks awkwardly stitched – the tail not in harmony with the silhouette of the gown. She looks in great shape though and the red lippie picks up the red in the gown.

  17. Im in a minority here too…..all that nose conturing and eyebrow make up, red lipstick makes her features look so harsh. She is such a beauty and nude make up would have lifted her up further..Yes I agree with other reviewers, she just does not look happy.

  22. Perfect outfit choice! Love the way this dress celebrates a full figured woman like Aishwarya. There’s femininity, softness, and total harmony in her look. I must say I prefer this look to the harshness, edginess, and anorexic wildness of some others. Her accessorizing, hair styling all work fluidly. I am not a fan of most of her outfit styling, but when she gets it right, it does feel perfect!

  23. She looks good ! Glad her make up is more up her alley with defined eyes although the red could be a little more darker on the lips . In the past her make up has been more trendy with blue / green eye shadow and no liner etc and frankly it never suited her . I’m glad they stick to a “ safe “ look make up wise . Dress is gorgeous and unusual , no Elie Saab for a change ! Overall she did well

  24. Queen just shut the red carpet down! Our girls are taking Cannes by the storm. Also, Sonam,Deepika and Aish are there as ambassadors of a makeup company.. they are supposed to do things as told by the brand. They are just doing their work.

  25. I suppose I am the only one who thought the gown and whole look was tacktastic. The gown has a pattern that I am familiar with through my mom’s salwar suits of the 90s. And that awkward length at the back of the gown was more of a tail than a train. It should have been an extension of the base of the gown, but placed such as it was, it created the effect of a tail rather than a train. And the severe, pulled-back hair and makeup makes her face looks puffy and bloated. Aside from all that, I am not a fan of the fact that she drags her kid to an event that is totally not appropriate for a kindergartner or first-grader. I get that she is a senior rep for Loreal, but so too are many other actresses – but this is Cannes and not a Disney parade, and it is entirely inappropriate that she could not leave her kids with either grandparents or nanny. For that alone, I can’t really find any positives to her presence on the red carpet.

  27. How is this beautiful? Leave aside the caked up makeup.. unusual because her cannes looks are always makeup and hair perfect.
But her outfit? Cape i get. Trail from a skirt I understand. What is a cape from the middle of the ass on a gown?!

  28. HHC, no offense but seriously, you have to give Aish credit when she simply deserves it! She looks SPECTACULAR! she has presence, drama and drop dead looks here… nothing to fault. First you blame your critique on others wanting to see her in a non-red lipstick… and while you call her breathtaking…you diss her and credit her gown for that! Come on now! give credit where it is due! Stay credible!

On anyone else, this dress could have looked costumey but on Rai, Wowza!
