In Elie Saab Couture

For the amfAR gala, it was another Elie Saab for Aishwarya, this time one from the Spring 2014 Couture collection. As you’ll notice, her version is missing the belt and the train and while it may not have been high on drama (well compared to yesterday’s outing), it was definitely dreamy.

The look was feminine and the color rather romantic but I think I would’ve preferred it if instead of the matching eye-shadow, L’Oréal had gone for a green palette to highlight her eyes.

She looked gorgeous, nevertheless.

What do you think of Ms. Rai’s final official appearance?

  1. It’s a pretty gown and she looks lovely. I don’t like the ‘match much’ eye shadow because it draws (my) attention to her uneven (arch) eyebrows. She’s also had very similar hairstyles throughout Cannes and it’s boring. Wish she would have tied a simple knot, then the necklace would have stood out as well.

  2. Agree with the comment re: green eye shadow; I always think green goes great with purple in any case. BUT, I’m not complaining. Love the color of the dress, and Aishwarya does look dreamy.

  3. It’s such an event appropriate look since it’s a Gala not the regular Cannes Red Carpet. Very feminine, very easy on the eyes. And that color is the winner. What a fabulous Cannes year for Aishwarya. She displayed a pretty good diversity and looked elegant and effortless in every look. Hoping she puts similar efforts while in India too. Coming after such a dramatic Ralph & Russo look that people might find it underwhelming. But this is once again a winning look. That Harry Winston Neckpiece is to die for!!

  4. Hey! This is not a red carpet, and everybody was dressed down. One gotta sit in the gown for 2-3 hours, so they better pick something comfortable to wear. Aishwarya chose this dreamy number, and I love her makeup too. She looks simply gorgeous! I would wish she played up her hair a bit, but stunning nevertheless. She slayed Cannes this year. Sonam and Katrina, please take notes.

    • Uncalled for to bring Katrina and Sonam down.

I am proud of all the three leading ladies actually. All three – Ash, Katrina, and Sonam – brought their own individual style and take to Cannes. And yes, I did think Katrina did great with her choices (except the red hair). Sonam was a knockout in the royal blue and other day and formal events. Ash was super! This was probably the most consistent (in a good way) she’s ever been at Cannes!

        • What is with this Sonam and Katrina bashing??? Ash looked brilliant this year, no doubt about that. Amazing picks, wonderfully styled. But she had years of disasters before she finally found her groove in her 40’s. Remember those Neeta Lulla disasters at past Cannes?? Sonam and Katrina are still young.

      • Sonam and Kat need to take notes?! Going by that logic Ash would need to take notes from Cate Blanchett, Emma Stone, Charlize Theron Natalie Portman….

    • Let alone comfort, this is gala and not a redcarpet event.
At a gala, you cannot be trying to steal the scene and be overdressing, unless you are Lady Gaga or Cher.

This is very appropriate without the runway cape or the train.

  5. There seems to have been no thought put into her appearances this year. Same old same old! Same hair for every appearance.
Same sleeveless/strapless gowns day after day.
    So boring.

And to put the icing on the cake, she wore the same Chopard star earrings today as she did last night!

  6. i don’t like it! It doesn’t suit her body type & it doesn’t define her waist very well. Reminds of a ponds ka ad which I would see as a kid. But her face is heavenly. Neck up no complaints .

    • I agree..the gown does nothing to flatter her shape. I would call it bad design. Of course that doesn’t take anything away from her gorgeous face though!

  7. Also am I the only one who has gotten bored of Ellie Saab gowns? They are starting to melt into each other. Also I think this dress would be perfect on Fan Bing Bing. Loved her floral attire on the red carpet. She would have rocked this look.

  8. P&P,

Can you do a fun post asking people which Indian actresses would they like to see at Cannes?

I think it would really awesome & nice to get everyone’s thoughts on this.

  9. The Cannes people could have put a little more effort on her hair too. She has had almost the same hair style this year!!

  10. The gown is pretty and the color is fantastic, but she looks tired and somehow more aged compared to the other appearances; maybe it’s just the photography. Her eyes are bloodshot and the purple shadow didn’t help. Would’ve liked to see her in an Indian outfit instead of the same type of dresses.

  11. She looks dreamy, angel & stunning. She has just rocked Cannes & proved that finally she is the only queen…
Loved all her outfits & appearances.

  12. The problem likely is extreme closeups. As someone else mentioned, the blood shot eyes and purple eyeshadow age her too much. She looks tired and older here.

  13. My least favourite of all her looks at Cannes and I still loved it! What a fab year for her at Cannes! She has carried everything so well! Hair up wild have made a nice change but even this hair is probably shorter and different to what she has had all these years

  14. She looks lovely. Very dreamy.
Also, I’ve been finding the comment section of all the Cannes posts sooo nasty. People are really bringing their mean girls out. Gosh, I wish everyone would calm down. This is not the olympics of fashion, where we need to pit them against the other. They are three women with very different styles and you don’t have to like what they wear but there’s no reason to get personal.

    • I know, whats with all the ‘watch and learn’ comments aimed at katrina and sonam?! Agree aish looked great this year but shes hardly a fashion plate all these people are suddenly hailing her as this year. Don’t think sonam has much to be worried about. I personally found the ‘oooh i think I’ve just died and gone to heaven by looking at aishwariyas face’ really creepy and ott.

  15. Is there any specific reason why the Hair & Make up for all has been so…amateurish, to say the least…everyone’s been wearing ‘matchey’ eye make up and no drama in the lip color as well…the hair, well – looks like the hair guy was disinterested and left both katrina & aishwarya’s hair as is for all events…

  16. 1. The dress would work wonders for girls in their late teens or in their 20’s..not sure about the one’s in their 40’s
    2. Make up too matchy matchy
    3. Same old hair
    4. Looks exhausted ( This I can ignore because she might be on a really tight schedule)
    5. Her only good appearance at Cannes was the Ralph and Russo!

  17. Neck above – beautiful and ethereal…but the gown is a big miss…neither the color nor the shape is doing anything for her

  18. this year unarguably belongs to aishwarya.she has surpassed all expectation and emerged as a true fashion icon.beauty with brains with a dash of aura!!!

  19. The color looks lovely on her. But I wish the make up was a bit simple. Still a winner.
I think Elle Fanning had worn a similar gown at her Maleficient premiere.

  20. Totally agree with Chaitali above except the only look I really liked on her was the claret Oscar de la renta! The Ralph & Russo outfit was beautiful but I felt her hair looked too greasy and make up needed some colour! Also this year all 3 ladies have been quite disappointing (except Sonam’s Sandeep Khosla saree & her Ralph & Russo outfit & hair were gorgeous but make up scary!) and just too many Elie Saabs to digest!! I used to feel his clothes were exclusive but Either he is providing gowns free for Cannes or the other designers have just vanished! Can’t bear to see another Elie Saab on this page puhleaseeeee!!!! And this outfit definitely not for her…Makes her look quite plum and make up is pathetic!

  21. Oh & would love to see Kangana on the Cannes red carpet! I feel see has a great style sense of her own rather than blindly depending on stylists!!

  22. So it did not occur to anyone including her stylist, makeup artist, PR persons, family and most of all Aishwarya herself that she had been sporting the same hair during all of her appearances????

  23. This gown is just ok. Nothing to write home about. Hate the matchy matchy lavender eye makeyp…….looks too juvenile…..like she is going to prom.

  24. I love ES i think he is the Fashion God!! and his gowns are a living dream,
But im sorry to say Aishwarya did not pull this look off
