  1. Great makeup and hair. The top of the dress is great but not the bottom. BTW, I think the fabric is supposed to be crinkly if this is an Armani dress. Yah

  2. looks awkward and a little big for her..black was never a colour for her..she looks way better in pastels and mostly white..even tho she took the gamble everyones right..it needs to be ironed!

  3. She looks absolutely gorgeous!! but that goes without saying.
these aren’t even the best pictures from the festival and she looks a thousand times better than all other wannabes..

Also trust you to not put the best pictures of her in your blog. lol

    We don’t play favorites.

We try and choose pics that show the full outfit completely and clearly, and also pictures where the subject in question is standing alone or with as little as background activity as possible, so that it doesn’t distract from them or their outfit.

Yes, there were some good pictures…close-ups or those where Ash is interacting with other people… but that wouldn’t have served our purpose of actually showcasing the ‘fashion’.

    :)

  7. Totally Nay…she is a beautiful woman (stop calling her FAT- when will we all learn that not looking like a toothpick does NOT equal being fat… Seriously ladies!!)
I think she needs to get more in line with “international” trends if she really wants to be taken seriously. The hair & satin gown is looking too “heavy” and structured for spring… she should have gone with a more flirty ‘n bright color.

  8. Super yay! This is a good start to redeeming her image at Cannes from her previous disasters. Although bright colours look great on her, she carries this dress off very well. Looking forward to more!

  9. I think she looks superb. First time I’m seeing her put her hair up, in a long time, she looks more hollywood. Agree on the ironing though.

  10. Love the hair and makeup, but the dress is TOO safe. It flatters her on the upper portion, but the bottom part just looks unironed. If its supposed to be crinkly, its not crinkly enough.

  11. Frst of all, she got saved with this gown because she is Aishwarya…now same gown on different celeb indian or non indian we would have gone bashing ! Now the actual gown….the gown has absolutely no uniqueness, no grace, no elegance, basically no wow factor ! its like I choose to wear this because black is safe..and yet formal ! We are talkin about same Ash who once wore an Indian yellow sari at cannes…seeing this it is like…that is all you have to add to it ?

Hair are okie…make up is lil smoky n sluty..I guess the gown required it.

But Ash simply lost the wow factor with this style and dress..didnt like the gown much..it was a safer choice i guess….not impressed !

  12. Wow, am I the only one in the whole world who genuinely thinks she ain’t all that? True, she had her breathtaking moments such as in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (my favorite movie ever ever! and her best movie and look ever), but if left to myself, I think there are several other (Bollywood) beauties that I would admire for their looks more. But of course, I can’t, because Ash is THE most beautiful woman in the world and you’re not allowed to think otherwise within the desi community. I used to be a fan, but now I’m bored with the Indian media’s ‘Ash-overkill’ *ducks*.

Neewayz, back to the dress: it’s a nice, safe choice, and would look perfect if she had ironed it. I really like the design and I’m definitely liking the hair :)

  13. Malini, I didn’t say she *is* a budhiya, I said she looks like one. That’s a big difference. There are plenty of women out there who are the same age as her or older but don’t look so old. Preity Zinta comes to mind, I know she is like 4yrs junior, but man, she is smoking.

Soumya, nope you’re not the only one. I think she was absolutely mind-blowing till very recently. I mean, Paro in Devdas or Jodha in JA- OMG!!! she looked ethereal!! I also loved her look in D2. But lately, she just looks so so so ordinary. Dunno what’s happened to her. Meh.

And she is not *fat* but her face/arms have become flabby for sure.

  14. She always look gorgeous no matter what! Dress is elegant in its simplicity but definitely not the best choice considering the weather. I’m looking forward to what shes going to wear when they show Jodhaa Akbar on the 18th I believe!

  15. This is too bold and boring…boring because the design is not good and it’s just plain…i liked that she changed her hair style and makeup thank god…but disappointed me with the dress…the gal behind her who’s also wearing black but with embellishment on the top caught my attention more.

My question is, okay she’s there just as an ambassador for Loreal and not to promote any film…does she HAVE to wear such long award ceremony type of dresses? i know it’s a red carpet but since it’s summer time, she could’ve chosen shorter but crisper and “good” dresses a la renee zellweger in her london premiere…she should’ve added some color besides the same ol’ beige, pink, green and now black.

anyway bottom line, i didn’t like this dress on her.

  16. I was at the Blindness premiere and let me tell you guys when the three of them walked you could only hear Aish’s name coming from the crowd and the pree photographers. She looked gorgeous in person and totally worked the crowd and press. It was proud moment for me to be Indian and see her walk the carpet. And the dress, makeup, her attitude everything rocked the crowd. So you can call her budhiya or whatevr I can vouch that I was there and people loved her.

  17. Soumya, I have to disagree. There are several BW actresses I admire for their style in dressing. But when it comes to looks I have to go with Aishwarya’s facial structure. She has the most amazing bones (regardless of eye color). The kind of face that will look good as she ages. Now if she only knew fashion – LOLl. But I guess that would make her too perfect.

  18. :) people feel so strongly about Ash, no?
I’d feel strongly too, if i could begin to look up from the unironed hem… doesn’t she have the tiny collapsible iron that my grandmum too never travelled without?

  19. boring! boring….boring…whats with this over-rated woman always wearing safe costumes?! its almost like the Bachchan family buys bllack, white and red cloth in bulk and stitch them into various outfits!

  21. If only the gown were a shade of YELLOW with gold/silver shoulder straps…would have been perfectttt…would have been the right color for spring and the wrinkles would have seemed non-existent…wot say ppl?? :D

  22. She’s got the look and the attitude ! Very international. Does India proud with her grace and poise Everyone who called her fat and old and whatever else over here are facing mid life crisis ! LOL !!!!!

I know! it would have been such a nice refreshing look!!

  24. She looks stunning beyond words. At last someone in this blog who is worth praising.

BTW don’t worry about the nitpickers, these people will put her down for everything she does and praise other Bollywood wannabes even if they dress like Apu’s wife in Simpsons.

  25. Uhm, I hope I don’t count as one of the nit-pickers or haters, because if I were that, I wouldn’t have praised her highly where deserved in the first place. As a media consumer, I’ve a right to say when I’m bored with a particular entertainer :)

  26. I duno y but I cnt ever take my attention to her nice dressing when you just look at her arrogance…i dont know if anyone else feels the same but she just oozes im so great and that kinda puts me off her…altho i agree she prob is gr8 and lucky and ok il stop there.

    Reply
  27. @ E’s Mama, I think what you’re calling arrogance is just confidence and self-assurance. I feel, she should be celebrated not incessantly put down because people “don’t think she’s a big deal”..ok, we get it…she’s not a big deal, so why bother hating on her so much?

  28. Wales is so proud of her Catherine zeta, and has propped her up so high. She is not as talented, her movies, most of them are duds, and the saving grace is her foresight in marrying Hollywood royalty. Here is our own Ash, accomplished, independent, articulate, hardworking, beautiful and vulnerable. It is sad that we do not prop up our ambassador. She deserves to be lauded, for she has kept her dignity and grace. I see the unanimously proud Welsh response to catherine’s success, while Indians like to bash their own Ash.

  29. I honestly don’t get why some ppl feel the need to worship the ground she walks on. I mean, isn’t objectivity valued anymore? I am the last person who’d call myself an Ash-hater. I think she is the prettiest woman in Bollywood, period. But, she dresses atrociously, talks with a fake accent and does the whole ‘i am such a perfect bahu thing’ which is again so annoying.

Why is it so impossible for her devotees to understand that there are valid reasons for people to dislike her beyond some random personal insecurity.

It’s also rather weird to expect everyone to just admire her because she is some intl. celeb. So what? Shabana Azmi has been doing films abroad since most of us were in diapers. And she did a stellar job.

And why do her devotees think she is constantly put down? When JA came out, when D2 came out, the WHOLE COUNTRY went gaga over her looks, and rightly so. But just because she looks fantastic in a lenhgna in JA or a black halter in D2 doesn’t mean she can automatically be called phenomenal ever after.

Jeez, these Ash wars are becoming so juvenile.

  30. Pitu, you are missing the point of some of the posters here. No one said she had to be worshipped but rather they were questioning the need for the constant hate mongering or bashing.

As someone said Aishwarya has not done anything to embarass India (unlike a lot of Western celebrities) and seems to live a pretty queit live. She is not going around bad mouthing her country or fellow actresses like some others do. So I don’t like her fashion sense but I give her credit for grace and dignity which is a rarity in these times.

  32. The dress does not seem right for the occassion. It is spring. Wear something flirty, something colorful. Actually Eva’s dress looks great. Wish Ash would have worn more color. I like the hair though. Good to see some one from India does not have the dramatic curls on the red carpet (a la Shilpa Shetty).

  33. Eva is the most beautiful woman in the world and even more beautiful in person
    Aishwarya is seriously overated.
Aishwarya’s dress was ugly and her hair to she look better in 2005 at cannes.

Whilst i’m not a fan, i DO think she looks awesome here! and for the love of god…STOP calling her fat! Or pointing out her “flab” etc etc.
People complain about Kareena’s size zero…and now about Aish’s “flabs”. Geez!

So quit complaining, and appreciate she did not wear what she wore all those horrifying years ago! LoL

And … she has this wierd eye makeup going whenever she is in these festivals..someone tell her to leave them as they are!
