Blackout

Day two of Armani’s 40th anniversary celebrations saw Aishwarya in a black shimmery dress, one that she wore with a black blazer and ankle-strap sandals.

We really want to be excited by the look but just can’t bring ourselves to be. The blazer addition made the look so matronly and from what we see, the eye make-up was quite off. We’ve seen her do so much better!

  1. Has she hired Gauri Khan’s make-up artist or Kim K’s? Such a gorgeous woman with all the access to fashion and she ends up in this unflattering outfit.

  2. Not very often one finds Aishwarya in bad make up. Contouring is so bad that it looks like the MUA has marked her face in two horizontal parts & decided to leave the bottom half unattended! Ironically, it still fared better than the made up one. Cheeks are cakey, eyes a mess, overall attire too dull & too black! Speaking of which, why does she always (almost!) prefer black or beige/copper/golden at international events?!

  3. To each his own, but I somehow like this look. Although yes makeup is bad.. But i like the impact of this look. Usually i dont like brown hair with a black outfit because they end up clashing but here they dont. And those are some really sleek and difficult heels to walk in, man!

  4. why does she appear brown during her foreign assignments and milky white in India. I am aware of the polarising opinions this might create but that’s not my intention. I am genuinely curious if it’s only me who notices this

    • Today after seeing this pic I was exactly thinking about this same thing that you’ve mentioned! Her make-up is always good and she looks very fair when in India, but as soon as she is abroad then she doesn’t look as fair as she does in India. So what could be the reason?

      • i think she is fair but tans easily maybe sunbathing when abroad or outdoor shoots ,but i disgree she doesn’t always look brown when she is abroad [ cannes ,oscars]etc .abhishek is light but looks dark when next to her so she has to be quite fair skinned.ive never met her in person but ive heard from people who have met them that they r both very fair.

  5. The length of the dress is odd…too long Make up is all wrong which makes her face somewhat asymmetrical. Wish she had tied her hair in a ponytail. Nice shoes though.

  6. I’m sorry, but she’s in Milan, where a look like this would be appreciated and considered classy, unlike parties in south bombay where a short dress and matching heels is an idea of a cohesive look. There’s nothing ‘matronly’ about this look.. I know this is a personal blog and everyone has a certain taste etc, but you guys should sometimes acknowledge that you have no idea of for example, what Italians and French find attractive and classy… Clothes are diversely represented across countries , and from what I’ve seen of your blog, you seem to have a routine viewpoint.

Apart from her face which looks super oily, and maybe th blazer could have been more snug, she looks incredible for the place and event she attended.

    • Frumpy looks frumpy everywhere – whether south bombay or milan. No one in france or milan would find this remotely stylish because every element of this look is wrong. You should check out some international stylistas’ blog before commenting abt how other people have no idea what the world is wearing

-blazer and dress is a classic combo (nothing french about it)
-if you like full sleeves either you go for a short blazer or you scrunch them up to give a breezy look
-the blazer and dress color is almost always different to add a pop of adventure
-the blazer is always left open so the dress shines through
-the length of that dress is completely rubbish
-the make up on top of being horrid is also too heavy for this look
-even the hair is too heavy – you either put your hair up or give them a wind blown look

the entire idea of a blazer with dress is a fun, flirty, happy vibe. She is doing everything wrong.

      • This might just be my opinion but I find it such a let down when people stick to such strict fashion guidelines. I personally don’t have a list of do’s and don’t for any look its all about experimenting and seeing what looks best.

    • Haha, this is all kinds of ridiculous. Firstly, P&P don’t claim to know what Italians and the French find ‘attractive and classy’. The purpose of their blog isn’t to compare the view points of people from other countries to their own. I find it odd that you expect that from them. “Though this look doesn’t work for us, given our South Bombay aesthetics, we are sure people over in Milan will find this look to be the bee’s knees while them in Paris will fall over themselves in appreciation.”

Secondly, with the advent of this thing called the internet, knowledge of style/fashion from across the globe is no longer owned by people of a certain ‘class’ predisposed to snobbery; most people have access to what the French and Italians actually do find ‘attractive and classy’. I’m sorry to say but I don’t imagine anyone, from anywhere, with some sense of style, would call this a good look. I think Swati got it right – “frumpy looks frumpy everywhere.”

Instead of asking P&P to acknowledge immaterial (and possibly inaccurate) theories about themselves, perhaps you should acknowledge that you have liked a look that most people, of any class, would find unattractive. No shame in that.

  7. Elegant and beautiful. It’s Armani’s moment and it’s good to see she didn’t dress to get attention, the way Sonam was all overdressed when she went to Armani’s fashion week in Jan. Ash on the contrary has a subdued and dressed down look. Nice!

    • This! This is what came to mind at first glance- even the makeup seems to have been applied in the spirit of being funeral-appropriate!

  8. Style evolves as you experiment. The more you experiment the more you know what works and doesn’t. Aishwarya does not experiment and as a result her sense of style has stagnated.
This look is such a downer!

  9. Yes, the jacket and the make up were off…but I love the shoes..and on the whole she didn’t look as hard as you made her out to be.

P&P … I thought long and hard on whether I should actually put this comment down or not but in the end thought WTHey..

The problem I’m having with your reviews is…

This is a Indian fashion site but I am increasingly seeing you promoting some people and dissing others. Let me back up my claim.

Your favourites …Kangana, Sonam, Deepika, Sridevi

When it comes to above peeple…you don’t comment on poor eye make up…you pick one good thing that works and say you loove. Makes me wonder if you are their PR.

Sorry guys but I ain’t here for your PR work.

    • What does Indian fashion site got to do with playing favorites to sonam, deepika, etc. are they not from India ? Ash is beautiful but has absolutely no sense of fashion. Since this is a fashion site, she mostly receives negative comments. Plain and simple. BTW I do not think P&P play favorites with Sonam, deepika. Etc. sonam has changed the concept of fashion in Bollywood. She is a true fashionista. At times overdressed for the occasion but a fashionista.

      • Disagree DeeptiN.

I have noticed this bias too, and totally agree with Sandhya. Aishwarya has a better sense of style than, say, a Sonam or a Katrina, but it seems like P&P have something against her..even in if she had the most perfect look, they nitpick about something, whereas for the likes of Sonam etc, they are very liberal.

Yes this is a fashion blog. But at the end of the day, it is run by people and people tend to have a bias. Simple as that.

        • Lost you at “Aishwarya has a better sense of style than, say, a Sonam..” That’s the most ridiculous statement I’ve read and I’m not a Sonam fangirl. Before accusing others of being biases, one must reflect on one’s own opinions.

  10. It could have been much better had she worn a black pencil skirt suit instead of that dress…she should adapt to current trends

  11. I don’t know why she has this obsession for blazers, and that too blazers that don’t fit very well on her either because of the fit or her pose. They always awkwardly crease under her arms and make the shoulder pad stick out. She should have just stuck to wearing the blingy dress as is. This girl will never learn, sigh…

  12. I love the shoes but that is all. Otherwise a very matronly look. The makeup is awful but at least she’s not white washed with foundation.
Don’t worry about the Ash fan comments HHC. They will not accept a shred of criticism of their idol. Everyone is biased unless they say great things about her. She is beautiful she has zero fashion sense.

  13. That looks like a tuxedo jacket going by the satin lapels. Could have borrowed Abhishek’s because she was feeling too cold…Cant think on any other excuse for this.

  14. She looks ABSOLUTELY beautiful, seeing that it is a cocktail reception, she looks so cool and confident, nothing matronly about this look. She dont need outrageous outfits to stand out. Thumbs up. You look beautiful Aish!
