Aishwarya: The Mad Hatter

Comment image 77

Ms. Rai made an appearance at the 2009 Royal Ascots race as part of her Ambassador duties for Longines watches. The actress wore a silver-grey Armani suit with a black hat made by designer Ilda De-Vico (seen below). Although, at the races, people tend to go crazy when it comes to hats/fascinators (as you can see inside), Aishwarya’s was more toned down comparatively.

You like? The hat, that is.

  1. I like the hat (keeping in mind the Ascot context; hats really are crazy there), but she shouldn’t have teamed it up with this simple suit. Would have preferred a nice gala gown. That would have been a complete haute couture look. Now it looks like she dressed for office and then randomly placed a huge fancy hat on her head.

  2. Ummm… Haha dunno what to say really. Other pol surely have gotten crazier hats but it looks like such a fun thing lol. Ash needs to get back in shape STAT!

  3. Wow some of those hats are pretty crazy!…Ash’s is okay nothing fabulous..I wish she had worn a dress instead of the blazer skirt combo..Or if not, even a better fitted/more interesting cut/different colored blazer skirt combo would have been good! She just looks so BLAHH! But then again BLAHH seems to be what she usually goes for.

  4. No. I don’t like the suit. It doesn’t fit well and the cut is unflattering. The hair doesn’t go with the look either. It’s a beautiful hat, but she’s got the “This is not my idea *shrug*” look all over her face. She doesn’t look like she’s enjoying it.

  5. She looks lovely. Especially in the other pictures where she is smiling. The suit is appropriate – it is not a business suit but rather an elegant afternoon tea suit.

Some of the other women are wearing some really wacky hats and outfits – LOL.

  6. woahh..ash at the royal ascot. That’s some serious class. She looks great, I have a fondness for her toned down business suits..it’s different. Nice hat..she looks great.

  7. some how the hat is little off of the reast of her outfit, she could have been more feminine with a dress as someone mentioned above and the hair seem to be off…
Looks Like the HAT is an extra on her… the hair could have been puled up and to let the hat do its magic.
I’ve never seen at any hat themes events before. she does not look comfortable at all.

  8. give her a break guys…she cud have worn a dress instead of a suit but maybe she din know that people weare dresses instead of suits there…its her first time…and i too wud look uncomfortable with a huge thing on top of my head…inspite of all she looks great

  9. i actually love this look. she looks amazing with the feathered hat! the hat is fun, yet sophisticated- not crazy like others. i love her here!!!! the only thing i dont like is that she’s wearing too much jewellery on her hands. :S

  10. oooh she likes nice – the hat is nice too, makes a statement but not too over the top, she looks regal and ladylike and all, dunno if gown was the way to go, dont think too many of the stiff upper lip british dames types wear gowns to the races, but have seen pics of lady di n royal family wearing clothes like these – but what do I know, I dont live in good ol Blighty, and thank god for that!

  11. I think she looks very classy overall, as opposed to some of the more outrageous looks (which I also loved). I like that she gives off a very put together classy, powerful aura, she looks like an executive. I sort of love that she wears suits everywhere, it’s as close as she comes to having a sense of style :)

  12. WHOA Royal Ascots.. that’s freaking crazy. I don’t think her makeup is too cakey at all. I like the hat and I think her face looks beautiful, she looks seriously stunning. I would have liked a gown too though I think she would have looked hotter with a gown BUT this look is still nice. Not a bad suit at all…very classy, very pretty, very feminine. An 8 out of 10 for this occasion.

  13. The woman looks AMAZING (but I do think that the make-up is a tad too much). And are we sure she is not pregnant? She is glowing and has filled out distinctly.

  14. agreed! noone wears a skirt suit to ascots..except the queen – bcoz she’s old. A dress would have been more apprpriate. What aishwarya shldn’t wear is that constipated “superior than thou” expression..

  15. i have another opinion about ash – she concentrates too much on her face being that she has marketed herself as “the most beautiful woman” and all and she probably knows she has only a couple more years before she turns 40. But really one needs to enjoy your body as well! Be light, nimble and sexy in the body and automatically what you wear becomes fashionable and stylish. Anyway, my take on true beauty is that it is unspoken…she tries tooooooooooooo hard.

  16. u guys… there are LOTS of people who wear suits to the Royal Ascots!!! its normal. suits arent only restricted to business wear!!
i actually lovee this suit! wish i could buy it! it looks so elegant and classy! and Ash wears it amazingly!

  17. She looks good.. but there is just a teensy bit something awkward. Maybe she would look good in a classic shift dress but this is good enough for the races too. The hat in question is nice but there are much smaller options available. I have been to the melb race cup where it is a sea of women in hats all the time. I like the lady with the bird house and the ice cream cone..v cute :p

  18. the hat doesn’t seem to be part of her outfit..kind of photoshop-ed.if you know what i mean :)

she does look pretty though :)

  19. Don’t know what she does with her eyes/eyebrows, but it just makes her look so artificial. Agree with sugarandspice, way to much make-up.

  20. no, dont like the hat as its making her face look lopsided..and its just drawing more attention to her asymetrical face/eyebrow part..

  21. I really LOVE the look…
It suits the event..and it still looks classy !
    and not trying to be….

  22. I like the hat – it’s tastefully creative, and it’s sitting so well on her pretty face. I love the toned down overall look. She completely pulled it off. I just wish she had worn a gown, a simple one. She’d have looked right out of a Jane Austen novel then :).

  24. She is a very pretty woman, but she is looking tired. Her eyes are tired .She needs to slowdown, take it easy and relax and enjoy life.Hopefully she will soon be blessed with kids .The tiredness due to hectic shcedule after IIFA is showing.
As far as her dress sense at Ascot, well she looks good, but tired…

  25. Her face looks awesome.
But nobody wears a boring suit to the ascot…except the queen and the old dames.
A beautiful elegant gown or at least a shift dress woould have been more appropriate.
    Whatever…Ash at the Ascots…woah!

  26. @debs, a gown at Ascot during the daytime races? That is not done. The appropriate wear is an elegant frock or suit with the hat – only starlets wear flashy clothes to Ascot. The gown is worn at night for the gala events.

  27. Aishwarya, do your homework about where you are going and please wash your face! So much cakey “natural looking” makeup… makes it look even worse. And wear a dress, yeah even one of your frocks will do. Not this matronly suit. The hat is understated for Ascot. Its a nice hat but for Ascot, it should have been even more over top. This is like she was a 50 year old society matron, dressed for a boring fuddy duddy society wedding to be photographed in Hello. Awful.

And smile with your eyes even if you are uncomfortable. Yeah let those eye creases show. Its ok to age darling.

  28. LOL it’s hilarious how ash ALWAYS gets the most comments on this site, evn though every second person claims they dont like her that much/ arent really a big fan of her’s.
Coming back to topic: Nice hat, boring, shoddily cut suit, worse make up.

  29. @sony: Frankly, it’s just the reverse. Any criticism of her gets translated as ‘tsk tsk people are just saying that because it’s Aishwarya’, while it would be perfectly acceptable to criticize any other star’s fashion sense or makeup that way. No, it’s not because ‘we’re just jealous’, it’s because her sense of style and appearance really does suck sometimes.

  30. It’s funny reading the critical comments here. But if you go to the western press, they are complimenting her look as beautiful and elegant. LOL

  31. The ladies all look so pretty. And wow look at the ice-cream hat!!! And are those yellow DNA coils on that other lady’s hat?

  32. Why do Ash and Sonam always get so many comments? So weird lol. Anyway, I like the hat and she looks really pretty, but the suit is quite ill-fitting, wish she had worn a nice fitting knee-length dress or maybe even a pencil skirt, at least a fitted suit:)

  33. @Carol, again, why does the western press have to be right always? The west is clearly crazy about Frieda Pinto and loved every red carpet appearance of hers including the Oscars while it drew mixed reactions from us. @Ritu,totally agree with you.Any comment about against Ash is branded as “being jealous”. I love her hat but I agree-cakey make-up,bad hair do and tired look.I think she might be wearing these insane layers of make-up as she might be insecure about growing older. pity, because she was stunning at Cannes with natural make-up.

  35. Actually the western press dosent write about her at all… apart from some european supermarket tabloids. Thats like being in the National enquirer.

  36. The first thing that came to my mind when I saw this pic was Ash in Devdas. She strikes the same pose here, albeit in western wear. Although she looks beautiful, she just doesn’t have the right attitude in this picture ( for a western wear).
She looks like a beautiful Indian bahu forced to dress in a suit.

  37. @siony well glad to hear you have an opinion! that’s what this board is for. But just like you think she always looks perfect, there are people who think she can look hideous! that’s life :)
