Aishwarya and Abhishek at IIFA Awards 2009

Like Sonam, Aishwarya also seemed to be saving the best for last because this Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla sari was a sight for sore eyes after the Nachiket Barve frock that we saw on her on day one. As for Abhishek, his suit was great but the gelled spiky hair was a put-off, for me atleast.

Check out new pictures from the IIFA 2009 Fashion Extravaganza at The Gallery.

  1. WHAT A LOVELY SAREE! <3
Ash sort of has the perfect figure for sarees, she never looks bad in one. I love the color.
She needs a new makeup artist :/ whoever does her at Cannes, she should hire them for EVERYTHING!

  2. FINALLY!! Someone who knows how to drape a saree right. Priyanka and Lara could learn a thing or two about draping from her.

I really like the color on her, even if I do wish it was a bit darker. I love how she didn’t add unnecessary jewelry to the outfit. It’s almost enough to make me forget the disasterous frock. The make up looks wierd in the last picture, not so much in the ones before it. Wonder what’s with that.

  3. To be honest, there’s nothing ‘special’ about Ash’s sari. She’s worn and looked better. This sari is basically the same ‘chikaan’ embroidered stuff that’s been seen on Ash time and again in her salwar kamiz suits. Also, the obvious weight gain (esp on face) and that hairstyle doesn’t help either.

    I don’t like. :(

  4. Gorgeous, amazing sari! Wow, this is beautiful – i’m wondering if it’s one of the saris that Abu-sandeep created for ash’s wedding collection.. i remember reading that they made several for her but that she went with neeta lulla in the end… Anyway – she looks fantastic and abhishek looks good too – i would not have chosen that tie but blah!

  5. Ash has finally nailed it. The saree is very simple, but she looks so elegant. I think this is the first time she is wearing a saree on a red carpet abroad (except for the Devdas premiere at Cannes years ago!)

  6. Aishwarya looks simple, classy and elegant in a sea of overdone outfits. This is how you stand out not by trying too hard.

    Abhishek looks good too.

  7. Ash looks great. Everyone should learn how to wear a saree from Aishwarya…the woman may not have a great sense of style but when it comes to saree she rocks.

  8. @EM–I have to agree about the saree draping part. She does it right..
The saree’s great and Aishwarya wears it well. The jewellery’s great too. The only part I don’t like is the way it bunches up because its stiff at her left side.

  9. Don’t like Aish personally but love the saree and the way she wore it. I have to give 100 thums up to women in Bollywood who dare to cover their blouses with the pallu. I just can never like the new fashion of putting your pallu in the middle of you boobies…….sorry, I think that is trash fashion and should be abolished soon!

  15. The sari is typical abu sandeep work.Making ash look gorgeous is nothing great, she looks good in everything. But actual test of a designer is to make a person with jaya’s body structure look good,in which abu sandeep fail everytime

I just ADORE this saree! So pretty, Aish looks cute but I really wanted her to change her hair and makeup, still she looks gawjusssssss
I agree about Abhi, I just hate when guys over groom themselves as in gelled hair et al. The suit is fab:)

  19. agree with “K”, looks just like her chikan suit, nothing special about the saree…and with “Sarah”, saree draped the classic way is really the best, not putting it in between,…

as for Abhishek’s hair, I liked it, spikes looks hot … on any guy… its the only way guys should be allowed to do their hair, in my opinion anyway…and I’ve used like intentionally cz I like thefactthat he did spikes, but since guys have the potential to look absolutely droolworthy with spikes, it wasnt wow..nothing I love..

  20. I dont know… the saree is just ok for me… may be its the amount of work on it.
And what makes it all bad for me is the blouse and her makeup. Why, why, why, why that blouse!

  21. And for all those who call is simple – please define simple… how does this saree, of all the sarees we have seen qualify as simple?
not simple in term of cost i am sure, not simple in terms of work… simple because its light coloured??

  24. bad makeup, nice saree but paired with the wrong blouse and ghastly makeup. The only thing i wish is the saree were in a different color, this one makes her look broader and huger in some way and its a saree for older women methinks.

i also wish changes that hairstyle, its so old and boring, been seeing it on her since the past 10 years i feel.
